Elizabeth (Betty) Wells 1919-2005 SACKVILLE, N.B. - Elizabeth "Betty" (Smillie) Wells, age 86, formerly of Pointe de Bute, N.B., passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2005 at her assisted-living residence in Sackville, N.B. Born on May 31, 1919 in Fauldhouse, Scotland, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Smillie. Betty came to Canada with her son Bill in 1948 as a war bride. She was a cook and butcher for the British Air Force during WWII and was a lifetime member and Past President of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 26, Sackville, N.B. Betty, along with her husband Herman, was devoted to helping with poppy campaigns, rock-a-thons and numerous other activities to serve the Legion and surrounding communities. Betty will be sadly missed by five daughters, Verna (Wayne) Frew of Moncton, N.B., Betty Anne Stathis of Tamworth, Australia, Sheila (Albert) Sweeney, of Toronto, Ontario, Margaret (Glen) Murdock of Sydney, Australia and Lorna Wells of Fredericton, N.B.; four sons, Bill (Alida) Wells of Northern Ontario, John (Kathy) Wells of Moncton, N.B., Charles Wells of Moncton, N.B. and James (Cheryl) Wells of Sackville, N.B.; eighteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Betty was the last remaining member of her Scottish family. Betty was predeceased by her husband Herman in 2002 and infant daughter Carol Marie in 1953. Arrangements are entrusted to Campbell's Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (364-8188). Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by request of the family. A Memorial Service and Legion Last Post Service will be held on Monday, June 20, 2005 at 7 PM, at St. Mark's Anglican Church, Mt. Whatley, N.B., with Father Rufus Onyewuchi officiating. A time of fellowship and remembrance will be held following the service at the Mount Whatley Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Elizabeth may be made to the charity of ones choice.
