According to his headstone, George Campbell was born 1760 in Portsmouth (presumably in England). However, a search of all Portsmouth area parish records does not turn up any record of his baptism. In an 1814 letter to his wife addressed care of Agnew Crawford, Merchant, Greenock he mentions his Aunt Crawford. This Agnew Crawford is the son of Thomas Crawford and May Campbell. Thomas and May were married July 1774 in Callander, Scotland. I have not been able to find anything on George's parents nor on May Campbell's parents or siblings.
