Obituary
BAR HARBOR - Joe died Dec. 6, 2013, at a Bangor hospital as the result of complications from a debilitating spinal cord injury. He was born on May 24, 1968, in Connecticut, the dearly loved son of Beth Massicotte.
Joe moved to Lubec, with his mother and siblings when he was just two years old. In his heart he was always "from" Lubec. He enjoyed an idyllic childhood spent with friends, who he held dear all of the days of his life. Joe was an aggressive soccer player during high school while he thoroughly enjoyed his role on the basketball team too.
Joel fell hard for the first, and only, love of his life, the former Amanda "Amy" Richardson. His heart belonged exclusively to her. They married in 1988. Joe loved his daughters, Katie and Kayla. He worked day and night to provide all that he could for his family. He could always be depended upon to leave a warm bed in the middle of a cold winter night to repair broken furnaces so that other families could be warm.
Joel, Joe, Joey, was a kind hearted, good-natured person. He was quick to laugh and could be counted on to find the best in even the worst circumstances. Like all of us, Joe regretted some of the decisions he made because it was never his intention to bring pain to anyone else. He was a devoted friend, a loyal brother to his siblings, a caring son to his mother, and a faithful and loving husband and father.
Joe was predeceased by his brother, Brian Massicotte; and his mother, Beth Massicotte. Joe is survived by his wife, Amy Massicotte of Bar Harbor; his daughter, Katherine "Katie" Massicotte of Northeast Harbor; his daughter, Kayla Massicotte of Northeast Harbor; his adored grandchildren, Brady, Jordyn, and Parker; his siblings, Ellen, Michelle, Fred, and Betsy; and his in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. John Richardson of Franklin.
