Harold E. 'Gil' Gilbert, 78, of 6 Friel Street, Moncton, died Saturday at The Moncton Hospital after a brief illness.
Born at Bishopton, Que., he was a son of late Frederick W. and Annie L.G. Ward. He attended the United Church of Canada. He had been employed with Blue Cross, retiring after 25 years service. He was a past patron of the Eastern Star, Winston Chapter No.19 of Moncton, a member of the Masonic Lodge, Albert Lodge No.34, the K. of P. Riverview Lodge No.51, the D.O.K.K. and the Scottish Rite.
He is survived by his wife, the former Marjorie Kelly (Mattinson); a son, Donald Emmerson Gilbert of Moncton; a step-son, David Mattinson of Ottawa; a brother, Ralph Edwin Gilbert of Bishopton; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and by several nieces and nephews.
The body was forwarded for cremation. A memorial servce will be held 7 p.m. today at Cadman's Funeral Home, Moncton. Burial will be in Fair Haven Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements are in the care of Cadman's Funeral Home.
