Obituary
HAMPDEN - Ross G. Strang, 75, husband of Joan M. (Fernald) Strang, died surrounded by his family, Aug. 13, 2000, at his home in Hampden. He was born in Brewer, Sept. 9, 1924, the son of Charles T. Strang Sr. and J. Maude (Stewart) Strang. Ross grew up in Brewer and attended Brewer schools. A dedicated American, he served his country in the U.S. Army Infantry as a staff sergeant for three years during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in Italy in 1944. Ross had worked at Eastern Fine Paper for 24 years and as a postal carrier at the Brewer Post Office for 22 years. Ross was a life member of the Isaac E. Clewley VFW Post No. 4917 of Brewer, a 50-year member of the Ralph J. Pollard Masonic Lodge No. 217 of Orrington, a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Bangor, of the Maine Consistory 32 degree Mason, Valley of Portland, and Anah Temple shrine of Bangor. Ross was very proud of his family and loved to watch his grandsons play sports from Little League to high school. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Joan of Hampden, whom he loved deeply and was his guiding light; two lovely daughters, Cindy Polo and her husband, Robert of Hampden, Kelly J. Strang and her fianc?, J. Ivan Richard of Newburgh; four grandchildren, Keith P. Polo and his girlfriend, Amy Fitzpatrick, Matt L. Polo and his wife, Tina, all of Carmel, Travis R. Bryant and Joseph E. Bryant of Newburgh; a brother, Tex C. Strang of Brownville; a very special sister-in-law, Barbara Frost of Otis and nieces and nephews, whom he loved very much. He was predeceased by three sisters and five brothers, Ruby M. Matheson, Shirley Duncan, Nelson M. Strang, Stewart Strang, Richard M. Strang Sr., Charles G. Strang Jr., Wilbur "Bucky" Strang and Louise Strang. A celebration of his life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at Ross's home, 104 Old County Road, Hampden, with the Rev. Homer Strang, his cousin officiating. Family and friends may call at the family's home from 12 noon until time of service Saturday.
