Obituary
"Mattinson Body Found In Groveland" - The cause of death of Stewart Mattinson, 44 - former bank employee who's body was found at 11:20 a.m. Sunday near the Groveland Reservior, off King St. Groveland, was described as "unknown, probably natural causes," by Medical Examiner, Dr. Elmer S. Bagnall, Groveland.
Mattinson, 103 Kingsbury Ave, Bradford, former assistant vice president and assistant treasurer of the Pentucket Five Cents Savings Bank, was reported missing Oct 7, but had been missing approximately three weeks before police said. The decomposed body was found by Graydon E. Nelly, 43 King St., Groveland, in the wooded area in the rear of his property. It was lying approximately 35 feet from The Groveland Reservior Tank. Dr. Bagnall said there was no evidence of foul play. He said that in view of his findings an autopsy was "fruitless at this point". The body was first taken to The Roberts Funeral Home, Georgetown, and was identified there through an inscription on the inside of a ring, keys in the pockets and the clothes. It was not known how Mattinson got to the reservior area since no car was found. Mattinson was born in Chelsea, Sept. 29, 1922, son of Mrs. Brenda (Mac Donald) Mattinson and the late Guy M. Mattinson. He had lived in Haverhill for 39 years. He was a member of Saggahew Lodge, AF and AM, and had served last year as treasurer of Greater Haverhill Chapter American Red Cross. Besides his Mother he leaves his wife, Criscilla T. (Morgan) Mattinson, three daughters, Gail Elizabeth Mattinson, Cheryl Mattinson and Cindy Mattinson, Haverhill; five aunts, Mrs. Martin Godfrey, Detroit, Michigan, Mrs. Ethel V. Millar, Bradford, Mrs. George Dustin, Bradford, Mrs John Beck and Mrs. Isabella Millar, Prince Edward Island, Canada and an uncle Randall S. MacDonald, Prince Edward Island, Canada. The funeral services will be tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 at The H.L. Farmer & Son's Funeral Home, 210 South Main St. Burial will be at the Elmwood Cemetery, Bradford. At the request of the family there will be no visiting hours.
