      William Glenn Counsil, 68, of Landrum, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at St. Francis Hospital after an extended illness.
      Born on Dec. 13, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of the late Glenn D. and Jean (Rzepecki) Counsil, and was also preceded in death by his brother, Richard Counsil.
      He was a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, Class of 1960, and later served in the Navy on the nuclear submarine USS George Washington from 1963-1967. Upon leaving the Navy, he served as Senior Vice-President at Northeast Utilities in Connecticut and then went on to serve as Vice-Chairman of Texas Utilites and CEO of Washington Public Power in Richland, Washington. Upon retirement in 1996, he continued to be a consultant for the nuclear power industry. Mr. Counsil has resided at the Cliffs of Glassy since 1996.
      Surviving are his wife of forty-five years, Donna Robinson Counsil, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn D. and Beth Counsil of Greenville, and Craig Michael and Leah Counsil of Atlanta, Ga.; one grandson, Williams Saunders Counsil.
      Inurnment services will be held at the United States Naval Academy Columbarium in Annapolis, Maryland on April 27, 2006.
      In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, SC 29615.
      Woodlawn Funeral Home, Greenville, is in charge of the arrangements.
