"L.T. Wilbur, Barge Captain Feared Lost
Harbor patrolmen today began dragging west of the government locks for the body of an oil-barge captain who fell overboard about 11:30 o'clock last night.
Leonard T. Wilbur, 54 of 4239 Fourth Ave. N.E., an employee of the Foss Launch & Tug Co., was attempting to haul up a line when he slipped and fell about ten feet to a deck below. He then fell overboard said Raymond M. Barnes, 615 1/2 E. Pike St., who was assisting Wilbur. Barnes told Patrolmen C.A. Riley and T.R. Smith he ran to the side of the barge but did not see Wilbur again. The barge was being towed by the tug, Elaine Foss." - [S1520] Info: Deanne (Johnson) Broughton, e-mail 15 Dec 2004.
