Services for Dr. Jet E. Turner, 56, of East San Diego, will be at 5 p.m. Sunday in First Presbyterian Church. Cremation was planned, with ashes to be privately inurned in Monrovia, Calif. Balboa Cremation Services was in charge. He was found dead in his home Sunday.
Dr. Turner, was born in Monrovia and lived in the county five years and was an organist for several churches, including San Rafael Roman Catholic Church in Rancho Bernardo, and was a courier for the U.S. Courier Corp. He held bachelor's degrees from Pomona College and Andover Newton Theological School in Newton Centre, Mass., a master's degree in sacred music from Union Theological School in New York City and a doctorate in musical arts from the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
He taught organ at San Diego State University in 1979-80, had been a consultant in organ design and installation to churches in Wisconsin and Louisiana, founded the Fellowship of American Baptist Musicians in 1964 and was chairman of the music department of Louisiana College from 1974 to 1979. He was a member of the American Guild of Organists and the International Musicological Society.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol and Rebecca, and two sons, Tim and Steve, all of San Diego. The family suggested donations to the Dr. Jet E. Turner Memorial Children's Fund in care of the church.
