Obituary
WELLFLEET - Harry Austin Morrison, died in Wellfleet with his family by his side on Oct. 23, 2009[Oct 24, 2009]. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marie O'Sullivan Morrison; and four children, Whitney of Wellfleet, Stephen of Plymouth, Chip of East Barre, Vt., and Marianne of Weymouth. Grandchildren are Heather, Brooke and Whitney of Michigan, and Michael Morrison of Fla., Kelsy, Austin and Shane Morrison of Plymouth, and Stephen Alberino and Jacquelyn Alberino of Weymouth and South Carolina. Great-grandchildren are Autumn, Tyler and Cameron Morrison of Michigan, and Gianna, Joseph and Marissa Alberino of Weymouth.
The son of Harry Dodge Morrison and Elizabeth Parker Morrison of Natick, Mr. Morrison was a supervisory construction representative with the Corps of Engineers for 37 years. He lived with his family in Vermont, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Massachusetts during his active career, with other assignments in Maine and Rhode Island.
Mr. Morrison was an avid bird-watcher and loved to do crossword puzzles.
Flight officer Morrison served with the Army Air Forces in World War II, 437th T.C.G., 85th Squadron, and flew his glider during the Varsity Mission over the Rhine River in Germany to land behind enemy lines, which he felt was the turning point in winning the war since 200 German troops surrendered to the glider pilots upon landing. He also flew as Navigator on re-supply missions to Patton's Army.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, in the Nickerson Funeral Home, 340 Main St., Wellfleet, MA 02667. The funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, in the Our Lady of the Lourdes Church, 2282 Route 6, Wellfleet, MA 02667. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Route 6, Wellfleet.
