onrad Ashley Perley Geldart 1922 - 2002 Conrad A. P. Geldart, husband of the late Vera Marie (Mattinson) Geldart, died peacefully at home on June 15 at the age of 80 years. Born in Mapleton on March 19, 1922, he was the son of the late Worden H. and Rachael (Garland) Geldart. He was a graduate of Elgin High School and in 1940, he graduated from Mount Allison University Secretarial Department. He served in the Canadian Army from 1940-1945 as Staff Sergeant in the Royal Canadian Administration Service Corp. and was a volunteer in the Royal Canadian Air Force Ground Observer Corps. In 1946, in partnership with his brother Reginald, he built a general store under the name Geldart Brothers. From 1955 until 1979 he ran the business as Geldart's General Market, serving Elgin and the surrounding communities. He also packaged and distributed local maple products to larger centers in NB and NS. In 1960 Conrad established Geldart's Insurance Agency, which he ran until 1996. He is survived by his daughter Catherine Dawn Geldart, partner Pierre L. Trudeau, and grandson Matthew Conrad Rockwell of Timberlea, NS; one son Conrad Dwight Geldart of Penobsquis; two sisters Marguerite Harvey (Harold) of Moncton, Dorothy Bannister (Eugene) of Cape Cod, Mass; one brother Harley Geldart (Nina) of Sussex; two sisters-in-law Dora Geldart (Reginald) of Riverview, and Amy Mattinson of Mt. Pleasant, NS; nieces Deborah Davis of Sussex, Nancy Drew of Cape Cod, Mass., Rosemary Kelly of Maine, Vivian Kley of Brentwood, NY, Sandra Gould of Riverview, Marcia Hicks of Brighton, ON, and Nancy Anne Gaver of Brookfield, NH; nephews Robert Harvey of Fredericton, Alan Bannister of Peterborough, NH, and Brian Harvey of Moncton. In addition to his wife of 44 years, he was predeceased by his sister Hildred Smith (2001) and his brother Reginald (1974). Resting at Armstrong's Funeral Home, 33 Russell Street, Petitcodiac, with visiting hours on Wednesday from 7-9 pm, Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm, the funeral will be held from The First Elgin United Baptist Church on Friday, June 21, 2002 at 2pm, Rev. Mark Smith officiating. The Royal Canadian Legion will be holding a memorial service at the funeral home on Wednesday at 7pm. Interment in the Old Elgin Cemetery. For those who desire donations, to the memorial of the donor's choice would be appreciated.
