NELSON, BLAIR PERCIVAL "HOSS" - 1926 - 2013 - Blair Percival Nelson, 86, of Hopewell Cape passed away peacefully on January 15th, 2013 at his home. Blair was born in Lower Cape on September 10, 1926 the son of the late Percival and Eleanor (Tingley) Nelson. He was a machinist for CNR until his retirement. Blair also had a farm for most of his life and enjoyed animals and being outdoors. He served with the Navy in WWII and was a member of the Hillsborough Legion Branch # 32. He was also a lifetime member of the Mountain View Cemetery, being very active on several committees over the years. He also enjoyed sports, having played baseball and umpired many games. He enjoyed hunting and had a few good hunting stories he liked to share. One thing about Blair you never had to ask where you stood because he would tell you exactly what he thought. He loved his family very much, he often had a gruff exterior but everyone knew all they had to do is ask and he would do anything he could do to help. His grandchildren and great grandchildren would definitely light up his face, they all held a special place in his heart. He was a very special "BIG GRAMPIE" to his great grandchildren and he was looking forward to the newest arrival due in February. He was a pillar of the community and was the oldest member of the Hopewell Cape area. He was also the last living member of the Albert County Council. Blair will definitely be missed by his family, friends and neighbors. Everyone will miss seeing Blair making his daily visits to the Post Office and stops at his friends along the way. During his last few years his lazy boy chair and the sports channels is where you would find Blair. Let's all remember the good times and how Blair would make his little jokes and tease whenever he could. It is hard on the ones he has left behind but we all know this is how he wanted things to end- peacefully at his home. He has left us with a wonderful legacy. He will be missed by his beloved wife, Erna Faye (Steeves) Nelson; daughters, Ellen Pottle of Oromocto, Charlotte Warda (Peter) of Hillsborough, Norah Doucet (Brian) of Sackville; sons, Keith (Cheryl) of Hillsborough, Hugh (Shelley) of Hopewell Cape, Barry (Marla) of Hopewell Cape, Ralph (Kim) of Hopewell Cape, Ian (Sandra) of Moncton and Dana of Hopewell Cape; his treasured 21 grandchildren and precious 21 great grandchildren; sister,Eda Constantine of Fredericton; sister-in-law, Shirley Teahan (Gerald) of Hopewell Cape. He will also be missed by several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by four infant brothers and a brother Raymond; sisters, Helen, Olive and Elsie.
He will be resting at the Albert County Funeral Home with visitation on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. The funeral Service will be at the Albert County Funeral Home on Thursday, January 17th, 2013 at 2:00pm with Rev. Carol Mullin officiating.
