OBIT - Mrs. Edgar H. SMITH
Amherst, May 7
A well known resident of Fort Lawrence, Mrs. Edgar H. SMITH, passed away Sunday afternoon following admittance to Highland View Hospital. The deceased had been in poor health for a considerable length of time and had been seriously ill for the past six weeks. The late Mrs. SMITH was 68 years of age. She was the former Carrie Victoria, daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Jacob OULTON of Jolicure. Mrs. SMITH took an active interest in the work of the I.O.G.T., and was a Grand Lodge Officer in this Order, as well as being a Past District Officer. She was also a member of the L.T.B.A., in which Order she had held important offices. She was a member of the former Methodist and later the United Church at Jolicure, and in recent years was an adherent of First Baptist Church, Amherst. Besides her husband, the late Mrs. SMITH is survived by one daughter, Eva (Mrs. Denzil TAYLOR) at home; two grandchildren, Ronald BEST, in the Canadian Army, stationed at Yarmouth and Sharon Ann TAYLOR, Fort Lawrence; and one sister, Cynthia (Mrs. Charles OULTON) Point de Bute. One daughter, Mrs. Bruce BEST, Kentville, predeceased her a year and a half ago; also two brothers, Wesley and Gaius OULTON, Jolicure, also predeceased her. The funeral will be held from the home in Fort Lawrence, Wednesday at 2 pm.

CAMERON, Jennie I. - 85, Amherst, passed away April 26, 1998, in Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born in Cape Spear, she was a daughter of the late Enzor and Alice (Strang) Oulton. She was a graduate of Mount Allison Ladies College in 1931. She was a member of Meriam Rebekah Lodge; Trinity St. Stephen's United Church and UCW; Chignecto Presbytery; Maritime Conference; Liberal Party; Cumberland ITC, and former member of Amherst Golf Club. She was past president of Maritime Assembly of the Rebekah Lodge, Ladies Curling Club and Cumberland ITC. She was a life member of Nova Scotia Home and School Association and Order of the Eastern Star. She was a divisional commissioner for Girl Guides of Canada, Cumberland Co.; an active leader in youth groups and town councillor from 1963-1968. She received the prestigious Mayflower Award. She is survived by daughter, Joan Cameron and husband Stan Davis, Amherst; son, Stuart and wife Margaret, Halifax; brothers, Austin Oulton, Bayfield, N.B.; Blake Oulton, Bathhurst, N.B.; sister, Edna Agnew, St. Sauveur des Monts; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews. Blake Oulton BATHURST, NB - Blake Oulton , 83, of Basin Street, Bathurst , died Tuesday (April 30,2002) at the hospital after a brief illness. Born in Cape Spear, NB, he was the son of the late Enzor and Alice (Strang) Oulton. He served as a Major with the North Shore Regiment during World War II . He was past president and member of the Herman J. Good, V.C. Br. 18, Royal Canadian Legion, Bathurst. He was a Commanding Officer of the North Shore Regiment from 1960 to 1964. He later became an Honorary Colonel. He was on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires; Past Grand Master and member of the Masonic Lodge St. John F&AM #27, Bathurst. He was the first president of the North Shore Shrine Club. He was the recipient of the 33rd Degree Honorary Inspector General in the Scottish Rite. He was a graduate of Mount Allison University and a past Counselor for the City of Bathurst. He worked for the former Consolidated Bathurst Paper Mill and was a member of the company's Quarter Century Club and he was a member of the First United Church, Bathurst. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Irene King. He is survived by two sons, Stephen Oulton of Bathurst, Phillip Oulton (Cynthia) of Surrey, BC; one daughter, Cathy Lavigne of Port Elgin, Ont.; six grand children; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Alan in 1966. The body will rest after 7:00 pm at Elhatton's Funeral Home, Bathurst. Funeral service will held on Saturday morning at 11:00 am from the First United Church, St. Patricks Street. Burial will be in the United Cemetery, Bridge Street. A Legion service will be held on Friday evening at 7:30pm and a Masonic service will be held at 8:00 pm from the Funeral Home. Visitation on Thursday 7 to 9 and Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. BAYFIELD, NB - The death of Austin Oulton, age 80, of Bayfield, occurred suddenly at the Sackville Hospital on Thursday, June 14, 2001.
Born in Cape Spear, NB, he was a son of the late William E. and Alice M. (Strang) Oulton.
Austin was a member of the Westmorland Masonic Lodge #44 F & AM, having just received his 50 year pin. He was also a member of the Eastern Star, the Bayfield United Church, and an active member of the Bayfield Cemetery Committee. He was a life long farmer, and was a contractor having worked for the CNR and the Department of Highways.
Austin will be sadly missed by three sons, Donald (Sandrea) of Bayfield, Dale (Marty) of Brampton, ON, and Bruce (Nancy) of Bradford, ON; one daughter, Marlene Oulton of Moncton; one brother, Blake of Bathurst; six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife the former Irene Ibbitson in 1985; one brother, Olen; and four sisters, Jennie, Edyth, Charlotte, and Edna.
The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 3 Main St., Port Elgin with visitation on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. The Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home, Sunday, June 17, 2001 at 2:30pm.
Cremation will follow, burial will take place in the Bayfield Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Bayfield Cemetery or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

William H. Trenholm
Northport, Cumberland County - William Harvey Trenholm, 78, of Northport, died Wednesday in East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash. Born in Northport, he was a son of the late Judson and Ina (Oulton) Trenholm. Surviving are three daughters, Della (Mrs. Donald Rushton), Oxford; Hilda (Mrs. Elmer Morash), Shinimicas; and Ina Arsenault, Moncton; four sons, Fred, William and Jack, all of Halifax; Frank, Oxford; three brothers, Enzor, Hammell and Judson, all of Northport; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Alma Smith, one son, Charles and two brothers, Jerry and Gonzellar. The body is in Mundle's Funeral Home, Pugwash, where funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, Rev. Darrell Doyle officiating, with burial in Northport Cemetery.

SACKVILLE (Special) - Aylesford Wells, 89, of Point de Bute, died Sunday at Sackville Memorial Hospital, Sackville.
Born in Point de Bute, he was a son of the late Ephraim and Alameda (Oulton) Wells, and a member of Wesley United Church, Point de Bute, Dorchester Senior Citizens Club and Senior Citizens Bowling Club. Twice married, his first wife, the former Allie Loretta Trenholm, died in 1967.
He is survived by his second wife, the former Aletha McGee; five sons, William and Harold, both of Point de Bute, Raymond of Sackville, Everett of Saint John and Ronald of Hamilton, Ont.; a daughter, Mrs. William Morice (Rita [Reta]) of Sackville; a step-son, Lawrence Craighead of Peterborough,
Ont.; a step-daughter, Mrs. Donald Frederick (Kathleen) of Campbellford, Ont.; a sister, Mrs. Sara House of Milton, Ont.; a step-brother, Clarence McGee of Sterling, Ont.; 24 grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.
The body is at Jones Funeral Home, Sackville. Funeral service will be held Wednesday at Wesley United Church at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Sackville Cemetery.

SACKVILLE, NB - Mrs. Alice M. Suthern, age 86, of Drew Nursing Home, Sackville, NB and formerly of Rockport, (Wilbur's Cove), NB, passed away in Sackville, NB on Friday, September 19, 1997. Born on June 1, 1911 in Brooklyn, NB she was the daughter of the late Frank L. and Clarissa (OULTON) Ward. Alice retired from D.O.T. #5 Supply Depot Moncton with 23 years service. A member of the Rockport United Church, Alice and her late husband, Frank, were instrumental in organizing the visitations and suppers for the visiting Memory Lane Singers. She will be sadly missed by her son, Orville of Dieppe; her sister, Frances Keenan of Moncton; her brother, Frank Ward of Kelowna, BC and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank S. Suthern in 1971 and by her three brothers, Stewart, Reuben and Roy Ward; her five sisters, Emma, Teckla, Julia, Ina and Nina. Visitation is at Tuttle Bros. Funeral Home on Sunday, September 21, 1997 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday, September 22, 1997 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.. The funeral service will be held from Tuttle Bros. Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, September 23, 1997 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Eldon Hay officiating. Ward, Frank Major

WARD, FRANK MAJOR born on Sept. 14, 1921 passed away peacefully on Nov. 18, 2007 at the age of 86 with his loving wife and family by his side.

Frank is survived by his wife Doris (nee Melnechuk); six children; 16 grandchildren; and one great grandchild, all of whom brought him great joy and amusement. Also survived by his twin sister Frances Jean Keenan and his nephew William McFadden, both of Moncton, N.B.; his niece Gertrude (Weldon) Pacholzuk of Penticton, B.C.; as well as numerous other family and friends.

Frank was born in Rockport, N.B., the son of Frank and Clarissa Ward. He served four years in World War II with the 14th Field Ambulance Corps. He was employed by the CPR in Calgary for 34 years, then retired to Kelowna, B.C.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer that a donation be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

The death of Hilda Dixon, 92, of Sackville occurred at St. John Regional Hospital on Friday, May 29, 1998. Born in Brooklyn, she was a daughter of the late Amasa and Dormer (OULTON) Hicks. Twice married she was first married to William Atkinson and laterly to John Dixon with whom was celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. She is survived by two sons, Edward Atkinson, Bowmanville, Ont., and Roy Atkinson, Chiliwack, B.C.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including William (Rose) Holmes, Sackville, Sally (Kevin) Evans and Wanda (Dana) Bradshaw, both of Hampton, and Carol Atkinson of Sackville, who resided with her during their growing years; two sisters, Alice Bembridge and Marion Hicks, both of Sackville. In addition to her two husbands, Will Atkinson and John Dixon she was predeceased by children, Carl and Georgina and by infants Holly and Donald, and by sisters, Daisy and Molly. The remains rested at Jones Funeral Home, Sackville where funeral service was held on Monday, June 1, 1998, Rev. Dr. Eldon Hay officiating. Burial in the Point de Bute Cemetery.

Harlowe (Brownell), Elsie A. -- 90, of Halifax, passed away peacefully January 11, 2011, surrounded by her family, at the QEII Halifax Infirmary. Born in Amherst, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Natalie (Oulton) Brownell. Elsie dearly loved her family, enjoyed her weekly bridge games and looked forward to tending her flower and vegetable gardens at her summer home in Pugwash. She will be missed by her daughters Grace (Ross) McCurdy, Halifax and Jean (Howard) Ward, Calgary, her four grandchildren: Jeffrey (Arleigh) McCurdy, Jane McCurdy, Natalie Ward and Nicole (Jeff) Shih and her two great grandchildren Keira and Connor Shih.
