Obituary

Mrs. Bert Barrie CHESTERVILLE (Special) Following a short illness, the death occurred of Mrs. Bert Barrie, Chesterville. She was 77. Mrs. Barrie was a native of Cardigan Bridge. PEL. She was a registered nurse when she married Robert Barrie near Edmonton. Alta. in 1913. The couple lived In the West for a number of years before coming to Chesterville 40 years ago. Mrs. Barrie for 25 years was leader of the Mission Band and was a member of the Ladies Aid and Women's Missionary Society of St Andrew's Presbyterian Church. Surviving besides her husband are three daughters, Mrs. Bill Argyl (Helen), Nanaimo, BC; Mrs. Austin Carkner (Ethelwyn), Winchester, and Mrs. Dennis Maxey (Isobel), Vancouver, BC; and nine grand-children. Service in St Andrew's Presbyterian Church. Chesterville, was conducted by Rev. D. O. Fry. Interment was made in Maple Ridge cemetery.

Peacefully in the excellent care of Carleton Lodge on Wednesday, February 19, 2014, Ethelwyn Gladys (Barrie) Carkner, born in Cabri, Saskatchewan in 1918 to Bert Barrie and Ethelwyn Owen Barrie. Grew up in Chesterville, where in 1939 she married the love of her life, Austin (d. 2000). Loving and supportive Mom to Anne Barkley (Ralph); Connie Barton (Phillip); Helen (Bernard Léveillé); Arthur (Janet) and John (Lori). Proud Grandma of David, Jamie (Michelle) and Chris Barkley; Julie Barton Mills (Ed) and Ellen Barton; Warren (Joanne) and Kent (Myette) Foster; Daniel (Indri), Andrew and Hugh Carkner, and Sam and Niall Carkner. Predeceased by grandson Peter Barton in 2008. Loving Great Grandma of Djenka Bloom Barkley; Simon and Tim Barton; Evan and Cara Mills; Austin and Joe Limburg; Brianna Foster; and Phoebe and Sloane Foster. Beloved sister of Isobel Maxey of Qualicum Beach, BC; predeceased by sister Helen Argyle and brother Bobbie Barrie. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Remembered with fondness and trepidation by generations of students in the Osgoode and Metcalfe area, the former Carleton Board of Education. Dear friend to many, especially Anita Weagant and Margaret Johnstone, and a lifelong volunteer. ISOBEL MAYFORD MAXEY
Isobel Mayford Maxey, aged 95 of Qualicum Beach, B.C., passed away peacefully on April 23, 2016 after a long and well-lived life. Isobel was born April 8, 1921 in Chesterville, Ontario the daughter of Robert and Ethelwyn Barrie. Isobel moved to B.C. after meeting and marrying a dashing young RCAF soldier Dennis (Bert) Maxey on June 19, 1942. Isobel and Bert moved to Nanaimo, B.C. and raised four children while living in Ladner, Burnaby and Peachland, B.C. In 1980 Bert and Isobel moved to Qualicum Beach a nostalgic choice where they had spent their honeymoon. Isobel was pre-deceased by her husband of 56 years, Bert Maxey, in 1998 and her siblings, Bobby, Helen and Ethelwyn. Isobel is survived by her 4 loving children, Barrie (Katie), Jack (Paulla), Bob (Jo-Anne) and Judy (Perry).
Family was a delight for Isobel having 8 grandchildren (Ryan, Tyler, Natalie, David, Daniel, Jordan, Thomas, Scott) and 5 great-grandchildren (Kyrah, Eloise, Spencer, Connor, Nathan). Nothing gave her more pleasure than the visits to and from her grandchildren and more recently her great-grandchildren. The memories of time spent with Grandma “Sybil” at the beach or on road trips will live in the hearts of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren forever.
Isobel was an accomplished painter and family historian. She loved to tell the stories about her ancestors and their travels from Britain to Prince Edward Island and Ontario. Isobel enjoyed the company of a wide circle of friends and belonging to various clubs such as Eastern Star and she was an active member of her church. Isobel’s family would like to thank the staff at Eagle Park Health Facility for the outstanding care given to her during her final years.
A service to celebrate the wonderful life of Isobel will be held at St. Stephens United Church, 150 Village Way, Qualicum Beach, B.C. on Wednesday, May 11th at 2:00 p.m.

Peacefully with his family by his side at the Ottawa General Hospital on Friday March 14, 2008. Peter (Pete) Wright Barton of RR# 3 Prescott, age 37 years. Survived by sons Simon and Timothy and their mother Tanya. Loving son of Phillip and Connie Barton of Brockville. Dear brother of Julie Mills and her husband Ed of Cardinal and Ellen Limburg and her husband Mike of Johnstown. Uncle of Evan and Cara Mills and Austin and Joe Limburg. Survived by his maternal grandmother Ethelwyn Carkner of Winchester and his paternal grandmother Jennie Barton of Manotick. Also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.
