Barbara L. Lourie

Barbara L. Lourie, 72, of Leesburg, Florida passed away on January 26, 2009 at Orlando Regional Medical Center from a brain hemorrhage. She was the beloved wife of Raymond H. Lourie; married for 53 years.
She was born May 25, 1936 in Saint John, N.B., Canada; the daughter of the late Kenneth L. and Lillian G. (Randall) Durning. She and Raymond were married in Saint John, N.B. Canada in 1955 and moved to Portland, Maine in 1957. She was a member of the Thornton Heights United Methodist Church in South Portland. She was a kind and giving person who loved to spend time with her family. She and Raymond enjoyed camping and belonged to several camping groups. She also liked to go square dancing and play cards with their friends. They retired to Leesburg, Florida in 2002 and went back to Maine and New Brunswick, Canada for the summers.
She is survived by husband, Raymond; son, Douglas R. of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; daughter, Diane L. (Nate) Hall of Topsham, Maine; and three grandchildren, Christopher D. Lourie of Biddeford, Maine, Sarena and Courtney Hall of Topsham, Maine.
Visiting Hours will be held at the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland, ME on Friday, January 30 from 5-7 pm. The Funeral service will be held at Thornton Heights United Methodist Church in South Portland Saturday, January 31 at 2pm. Burial will be in Brooklawn Memorial Cemetery, Portland, ME. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the Alzheimer’s Association.
