COATES, Evelyn Ella (RN) - It is with heavy hearts that the family of Evelyn E. Coates, 82, of Amherst announce her passing on Friday, November 13, 2009, in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan. Born in Dorchester, N.B. December 4, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Carmen and Bertha Mae (Williamson) Lowerison. She was a loving wife, sister, aunt, godmother and dedicated nurse and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She was an active member of the Cumberland County Museum and Nova Scotia Bird Society. Evelyn traveled widely over the years, was passionate about books, birds, gardening, hunting, fishing and politics. Evelyn was a very vibrant and determined lady who was never shy about sharing her opinions on any subject. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Dr. W. O. Coates, and brother Junior. She is survived by her sister, June MacNeil; nieces, Heather MacDougall, Robin MacNeil-Ward, Mary Jane MacNeil, and nephew, Scott MacNeil; grandnephews, Roderick and Mark MacDougall, and grand-grandnephew, Connor; and a large and loving extended family. The family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre for their wonderful compassionate care. At Evelyn's request, her remains have been donated to Dalhousie Medical Science. A memorial service will be held in Cumberland County Museum to be announced at a later date. Donations may be made in Evelyn's memory to Cumberland County Museum through Campbell's Funeral Home, Amherst.
Godspeed, Wuds.
