    Obituary

    The death of the late Colson John Sobey husband of the late Annie Sobey of 5283 Route 108, Lower Derby, NB, occurred on Sunday, August 10, 2003 at the Miramichi Senior Citizen Home at the age of 90. Born in Maple Glen, NB, he was the son of the late Manfred and May (Ericson) Sobey.

    Colson is survived by: two sons: Eugene (Carmel) of Lower Derby, NB; Newton (Linda) of Truro, NS; two daughters: Wendy Hayden (Rev. Rick) of Scarborough, ON; Bonnie Doak (Jerry) of Doaktown, NB; one brother: Roy Sobey (Merle) of Maple Glen, NB; 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by: one sister: Alma and six brothers: Robert, Walter, Clarence, Eric, Gordon, and Eldon.

    The family received visitors at Bell's Funeral Home, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The Funeral Service was held from the Lower Derby Baptist Church on Wednesday at 1 PM with Rev. Rick Hayden officiating. Pianist was Betty Weatherby, Solo "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" was rendered by Shirley Estey and congregational hymn was "Amazing Grace." Active pallbearers were: Chuck Plaxton, Zack Savary and grandsons Dean and Ray Sobey, Matthew Doak, Timothy Hayden. Burial followed in the Lower Derby Baptist Church Cemetery.

    As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Lower Derby Baptist Church.

    The death of Roy Gerald Sobey, husband of Merle (Harris) Sobey, of 1030 Route 435 Hwy., Maple Glen, NB, occurred at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, on Tuesday, January 13, 2004, at the age of 83.
    Born in Maple Glen, Roy was the son of the late Manford and Mae (Erickson) Sobey. He attended The Boom Road Pentecostal Church, and was retired from the Department of Natural Resources.
    Roy is survived by his wife, Merle, and one daughter, Joan Ross, of Miramichi; two sons, Kerry, of Maple Glen; and Glen (Theresa), of Barrie, ON; 10 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
    Roy is the last surviving member of his immediate family.
    He is predeceased by one son, Reginald, and seven brothers: Clarence, Walter, Eric, Robert, Gordon, Eldon, and Colson; one sister, Alma, and two stepsisters, Ada and Margaret.
    Visitation was held at Bell's Funeral Home, on Thursday, from 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral service was held on Friday, January 16, at 11 a.m. from the Sterling Bell Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Fred Williams officiating, assisted by Pastor Tom Ettinger. Tribute/Eulogy was done by granddaughter, Jennifer Ross Makhan. Organist and soloist, Mary Matheson, rendered My Savior First Of All, and Good Night Down Here, Good Morning Up There. Congregational and choir hymns were: In The Garden and I'll Fly Away.
    Active pallbearers were: Fred Street, Gary Allison, Robert and Robbie Ross, Kevin and Kirk Sobey.

    Mrs. Olive Georgina Robertson wife of the late Frank Robertson of Tabusintac, NB, passed away Wednesday evening June 10, 2015 at Miramichi Regional Hospital, at the age of 94.
    Born in Maple Glen, NB, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary (McCormack) Sobey. She was a homemaker.
    She is survived by two daughters; Carole Denino of Tabusintac and June Cowan (Donald) of Tabusintac, four sons; Gary (Diane) of Oxford NS, Orin (Beverley) of Amherst NS, Michael (Carol) of Seattle Washington, Donald (Diane) of Tabusintac, 19 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Besides her parents and her husband she was predeceased by one son Charles, son-in-law John Denino, four sisters, Alberta, Ina, Rita and Marion, one brother, Wesley.
    Mrs. Olive Georgina Robertson is resting at Davidson’s Funeral Home, 597 Old King George Hwy, with visitation on Friday evening from 7-9. The Funeral Service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Davidson’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Tabusintac. In memory of Olive donations may be made to Miramichi Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit or the Miramichi SPCA.

    KATZUNG, M. Jeanette (Price) M. Jeanette (Price) Katzung, 94, of Ocala, FL., formerly of Avon, widow of Kenneth J. Katzung, died Tuesday, (May 20, 2008) at Heartland Nursing and Rehabilitation in Zephyrhills, FL, after a short illness. Born July 8th, 1913, the 2nd of 4 daughters to Manfred and Margaret D. (MacCallum) Price of New Castle, New Brunswick, Canada. She met and married her husband of 62 years and lived in Avon for over 40 years raising their family there, before retiring to Florida and North Carolina. She was Methodist and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Ruby Chapter, for over 50 years. She is survived by her son, James A. Katzung of Zephyrhills, FL and her daughter, Judith E. Smith and son-in-law Russell Smith of Ocala, FL with whom she made her home. Also, she is survived by her two grandsons, Daren J. Smith and his wife Julie of High Point, NC and Kevin D. Smith and his wife Christy of Burlington, NC and two great-grandchildren, Logan C. Smith of High Point, NC and Ashley M. Smith of Burlington, NC and a sister Bernice (Price) McDonald of Miramachi, New Brunswick, Canada, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.     Bernice T. (Bunn) McDonald  1911-2011
    Bernice Thelma (Bunn) McDonald, widow of the late John L. (Jack) McDonald, o f the Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home, and formerly of Water Street, Miramichi, passed away at her residence, on Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at the age of 99.
    Born in Newcastle, on October 22, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Manford and Margaret D. (McCullum) Price.  She was a homemaker as well as an intergral part of the management and operation of the former McDonald Hardware Ltd.; a member of St. Andrews United Church, Miramichi; a life member of the Edith Bell Unit, of the U.C.W.; a Charter Member of the Prince Charles Chapter # 27, Order of the Eastern Star; a 60 year member of the Miramichi Chapter of the I.O.D.E.
    She is survived by two sons, John H. McDonald and Robert L. McDonald, both of Miramichi; four grandchildren, Reinhardt, Sheila, Robert, Bruce; four great grandchildren, Anne, Linn, Jack, Hudson; five nieces, JoAnne and Margaret Laurin, of Montreal, Marilee Hierlihy, of Carp, Ont. Eleanor Hierlihy, of Toronto, Ont., Judy Smith, of Yellowstone, Park, USA; one nephew, Jim Katzung, of Florida, USA.  She was precdeceased by her husband, Jack, in 1986; three sisters, Jeanette Katzung, Eleanor Laurin, Mary Hierlihy; one daughter in law, Una McDonald.
    Visiting was at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., on Sunday.  The funeral service was held from St. Andrews United Church, on Monday, July 25, 2011 at 2 pm, conducted by Rev. Charlene Maguire MacKnight.  Scriptures were read by Candice McDonald and Judy Carpenter.  The hymns were "O Master Let Me Walk With Thee", "Abide With Me" and the recessional hymn was "Mine Eyes have Seen The Glory".  A solo was offered by Kim Shaddick, "Beyond The Sunset".
    Members of Prince Charles Chapter # 27, Order of the Eastern Star, held a service at the funeral home on Sunday evening.
    The honorary pallbearers were John G. Burchill, Bill Smith, Mike Chandler, Clint Hayward, Louise Keith, Marg Adams, Ida Currie, Marion Trevors.  Active pallbearers were John D. Trevors, Rick Trevors, Derek Burchill, John Burchill Jr., Cameron B. Sobey, Wilson G. Sobey, Kerry Ross.  Interment was in Riverside Cemetery, Miramichi.

    The death of Donna Marion Sobey of Maple Glen, NB occurred at the Mount Saint Joseph Nursing Home, Miramichi , NB on Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at the age of 72. Born in Maple Glen, NB , Donna was the daughter of the late Walter and Ina Sobey.

    Donna was a retired stenographer and did missionary work for 25 years.

    Survived by three sisters: Iona Redmond of South Nelson, NB, Eleanor Geikie of Newcastle, NB and Audrey Sobey of Maple Glen, NB. Two brothers: George (Ruth) and Boyd (Joan) all of Maple Glen, NB.and several nieces and nephews.

    MIRAMICHI, NB - The death of Mr. Wesley Curtis, husband of Annie Curtis of Avanti Blvd., Miramichi, NB occurred on Friday, November 28, 2003 at the Miramichi Regional Hospital at the age of 66. Born in Newcastle, he is the son of Marion (Sobey) Curtis of Miramichi and the late Edward Curtis. Besides his wife Annie, Wesley is survived by three sons, Gary (Janice) of Millerton, NB, Terrance (Joanne) of Moncton, NB, and Steven (Tammy) of Victoria, BC; one daughter, Darlene LaTullipe (Dale) of Miramichi, NB; two brothers, Edward of Riverview, NB, Arlen of Alisa Craig, ON; four sisters, Verna Cronkhite of London, ON, Shirley McLean of West Hill, ON, Margaret Smith of West Hill, ON, Betty Fitzgerald of Scarborough, ON; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; several nieces and nephews. Wesley is predeceased by his father, Edward; two sisters, Sherrille Randall and Winona Curtis; and one brother, James. At the request of the family there will be no visitation or funeral service. As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society or to a memorial of the donor's choice.     MARSH, SHIRLEY (1936-2009) The family announces with great sorrow her death after a brief illness at the Timmins and District Hospital, Timmins, Ont. on Monday, March 23, 2009 at age 72 years. Shirley was born in Maple Glen, N.B. She is survived by her husband Ralph Marsh of Timmins. She was pre-deceased by her daughter Edith Marsh (1959) and her parents Wesley and Sarah Jean Sobey of Maple Glen, N.B. Beloved mother of David (wife Michelle) of Rustenburg, Jeannie Marsh (husband Norman) of Timmins, Barbara Courtemanche (husband Andy) of Sudbury, Myra Gagnon (husband Roger) of Timmins, Heather Marsh (husband Gerald) of Stratford and Rodney (wife Paula) of Timmins. Cherished grandmother of Monica, Michael, Jennifer, Wesley, Bradley, Gregory, Cynthia, Andy, Richard, Alicia, Gina, Julia, Megan, Rebecca, Tiffany and Mathew and great-grandmother of many loving great- grandchildren.     SOBEY, Stephen Hugh “Steve”, age 61 of Mount Uniacke passed away peacefully at the QEII Health Science Centre,VG Site, surrounded by family after a courageous battle with   cancer. Born in Newcastle, N.B. Jan. 3, 1952, he was the son of the late Wesley and Jean ( Cadger) Sobey. As a young man, Steve worked in the mines in N.B. before moving to Halifax to follow a lengthy occupation in the glass business and most recently as a hydraulics’ technician. He enjoyed snowmobiling, promoting his son and daughter in stock car racing, playing darts, curling and belonged to the metro pool league for a number of years. Survived are his loving wife of 40 years, Erma of Mount Uniacke, daughter Veronica Sobey, Porters Lake,  son Wesley, Mount Uniacke, brothers Charles ( Cindy) Sobey North Bay, Ont., John “Jack” ( Elvina) Sobey, Chatham, N.B. , sister-in-law Beryl Sobey, grandchildren Hannah and Mary, many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brother, Vincent and sisters, Lillian, Hazel and Shirley. No visitation will be held. Memorial service will be held at Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth on Tuesday February 12 at 2pm. Reception to follow. Cremation has taken place with burial at Maple Glen Cemetery, N.B. at a later date. Flowers from family only. Donations may be made in Steve’s  memory  to the Canadian Cancer or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. A special thank-you is extended from the family to the Palliative Care Team of the V.G. Hospital and also family and friends who visited during Steve's stay in hospital.

    Charles F. Robertson Charles F. (Chuck) Robertson of Hinton, Alberta passed away suddenly July 8, 2002. Born in Tabusintac, NB, son of Mrs. Olive (Sobey) Robertson and the late Frank Robertson. Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife Gloria; three sons, Bradley, Jay and Frank; two sisters, Carole Denino, Tabusintac, June Cowan (Don), Tabusintac; four brothers, Gary (Dianne) Oxford, NS, Orin (Beverly), Amherst, NS, Donald (Diane) Tabusintac, Michael (Carole) Seattle, Wash; nieces and nephews.
