TUTTLE, Mildred Leona - 83, 14 Lawrence St., Amherst, died Monday at Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born in Shinimicas, she was a daughter of the late Smith and Edna (Smith) Weeks. She was a member of Trinity St. Stephens United Church and the UCW. She was a former member of IODE, the Amherst Ladies Curling Club and the Pythian Sisters, Elizabeth Temple, No. 6. On the retirement of her husband from Acadian Florists, they moved to Pugwash. She returned to Amherst in 1984, following her husband's death. She is survived by two daughters, Betty (Mrs. David Burgess), Truemanville; Barbara (Mrs. Charles Pratt), London, Ont.; two grandchildren. She was
predeceased by her husband, Norman; a sister, Esther; three brothers, Leon, Earl, Bliss. The body is in Furlong's Funeral Home, visiting 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, where funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Rev. James Fraser officiating. Burial will be in the Amherst Cemetery.

AMHERST - Leon Layton Weeks, Cornwall Street, Amherst, passed away at the Highland View Hospital early Sunday evening. Although he had only been seriously ill for the past few days, he had not been well since his operation two years ago. He was 50 years of age, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Smith Weeks of Amherst Shore. He was born at Amherst Shore and had resided in Amherst for the past 14 years. Prior to this, he spent a few years in Nappan and Wallace Bridge. Mr. Weeks had operated his own auto salvage business in Amherst for the past 12 years. Prior to this he was employed by the Department of Highways for three years and spent four years with the Canada Car and Foundry. He was a former member of the IOOF Micmac encampment. Besides his wife, the former Janet Burnet of River Hebert, he is survived by three daughters, Eleanor (Mrs. Donald Beaton), Berwick; Edna and Debra, at home; two sisters, Esther (Mrs. Alex McInnis), Mildred (Mrs. Norman Tuttle), Amherst; two brothers, Earl, Amherst and Bliss, Wallace Bridge and several nieces and nephews. The remains are resting at Furlong's funeral home, Amherst. Funeral arrangements have not been completed. The remains will be placed in the Highland View cemetery vault.

WEEKS, Bliss - 72, Fountain Road, Middleborough, died Tuesday in North Cumberland Memorial Hospital. Born in Amherst Shore, he was a son of the late Smith and Edna (Smith) Weeks. He was a merchant on Fountain Road for 50 years, and a member of Wallace River Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, the former Maureitius Tuttle; a son, Reginald, Fountain River; two foster daughters, June (Mrs. Arnold Perry), Moncton; Dianne (Mrs. Fraser McCloud), Pugwash; a foster son, Jack Smith, Amherst; a sister, Mildred Tuttle, Amherst; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. GOODWIN, Dorothy E. - 74, Amherst, passed away March 10, 2003, in Cumberland County Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan. Born in Shinimicas, September 9, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Ivan and Mildred (Smith) Goodwin. Dorothy worked with Bell Telephone in the late 50s and many years with Maritime Tel & Tel, Amherst, from where she retired several years ago. Dorothy is survived by sisters, Geraldine and husband William Christensen, Allison "Peggy" and husband David Beaton, both of Amherst; Joyce and husband Robert Fowler, Amherst Shore; her aunt, Firth McQuiggan; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Dorothy was predeceased by her niece, Carla Phillips (Christensen). Cremation has taken place and by Dorothy's request there will be no funeral service. A private family service will be held at a later date in Lorneville Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre or L.A. Animal Shelter. BURGESS, Betty - 79, of Truemanville, Cumberland Co., passed away Saturday, August 8, 2009, in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan. She was a daughter of the late Norman and Mildred (Weeks) Tuttle. Betty was a former owner of Acadian Florists, Amherst and was involved in the florist industry for over 45 years including district representative for F.T.D. Canadian Affairs Committee Atlantic Region and Director of Flowers Canada. She was a prominent designer, winning many honors, teaching at the N.S.A.C. in Truro, as well as guest designer at many retail and wholesale trade shows and open houses nationally. Betty had a passion for gardening, genealogy, old houses, history, nature, bird and animal life. She is survived by sister, Barbara (Charles) Pratt of London, Ont.; niece, Laura (Rod) Shaw of Oakville, Ont.; and nephew, David (Chary) Pratt of London, Ont.; her husband, David; and many caring cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by an infant son. Visitation will be held today from 7-9 p.m. A celebration of Betty's life will be on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. all in Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst. BEATON (nee Weeks), Eleanor Leona - 71, Elgin Street Seniors Complex, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2006, in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Nappan. Born in River Hebert East, she was a daughter of the late Leon L. and Janet H. (Burnet) Weeks. Eleanor was employed with the Springhill Police Department for 17 years. She was a member of Springhill Baptist Church and Willing Workers, and volunteered for several organizations. She is survived by sons, Gary (special friend Alicia Davis) Beaton and Duane (Susan) Beaton, both of Springhill; daughters, Janet Beaton, Halifax, and Janice Gunning, Dartmouth; sisters, Edna Weatherbee, Amherst, and Debbie (Allan) Wessell, West Amherst; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place under the direction of A.H. Brown Funeral Home, Springhill, where visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. today. A memorial funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 20, in Springhill Baptist Church, with Rev. Perry Hanley officiating. Burial in Amherst Cemetery, Amherst, at a later date.
