The first Sumner store was set up on Main Street at Duke, where most of the action then was, and on May 23, 1855, The Westmorland Times ran this advertisement: "W.H.T. Sumner, corner of Main and Duke Streets, having received, in addition to the former large stock, a new and fresh list of Goods per 'Seaman' from Boston and 'Ellen' from St. John, now offers the same to the public at a small advance on the cost. The Stock comprises - Flour, meal, bread, pork, hams, beef, beans, rice, lard, split peas, Groceries of all kinds. An extensive lot of Staple Dry Goods. The largest stock of Hardware and Carpenters' Tools to be found in this vicinity. Also Farming tools, nails, paints, oils, glass, etc. Hats, caps, readymade clothing, Leather boots and shoes in all varieties and sizes, being the largest and best assorted stock in that line east of St. John. All the above article good and perfect."

Obituary has been located in The Daily Times, Moncton on Thursday morning, Nov 9, 1911, page 7, col 4. Therefore his death occurred on Nov 8, 1911 and not in 1912 as per below.
In his diary, Jerome gives a death date as 8 Oct 1912 for his brother, Philip. He also has an obituary for Philip pasted in his diary and dated 8 Nov 1912 from the Moncton Telegraph which reads:
"A well known resident was removed by death yesterday in the person of Philip Le Blanc, generally known as Philip White, who had been employed for the past twenty-five years with the Sumner Company, formerly a truckman but in later years a hand in the warehouse. The deceased was about 70 years of age and had been ill about a month. He leaves a widow, a son John White, formerly a conductor on the I.C.R.(Intercolonial Railroad); a daughter Miss Venie, and two smaller children. He is also survived by two brothers, John LeBlanc, the well known coal dealer, Moncton, and Jerome LeBlanc of Minudie; and two sisters, Mrs. Mark Bourgeois of Moncton and Mrs. Alfred Brine of Minudie."Philip married Mary Ann O'Brien 1866.
