TIDNISH - Earl Henderson Jackson, 82, of Tidnish died Thursday at the Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Â Born at Head of Amherst, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. David M. Jackson. Â He was a retired farmer and a member of the Cumberland County Liberal Association. Â He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Madeline Embree, Halifax; and Mrs. Marion Helpard, Amherst; seven grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Â He was predeceased by his wife, the former Myrtle G. Baxter. Â The body is at Furlong's Funeral Home, Amherst where funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday with Rev. H.G. MacKenzie officiating. Â Interment in the Riverside Cemetery, Tidnish Bridge.

Phyllis Phillips 1918-2013
It is with deep sadness that we must announce the passing of Phyllis B. Phillips, age 94, of Amherst, NS. Phyllis passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Gables Lodge. Born in Tidnish Bridge, NS, she was the daughter of the late George and Beryl (Jackson) MacDonald. Phyllis received her high school education at the Spring Street Academy and took the commercial course at St. Charles Commercial School. She attended Mount Allison University in Sackville, N.B. where she received her B.A. degree, from there she entered the Westchester State Teachers College in U.S.A. and obtained her teaching certificate. She lived in Drexel Hill, Penn. for many years before returning to Amherst in 1983 following her husband's death. She was a member of the Amherst Golden Years Society and was previously active in their bowling league. She was active with the IODE Thrift Shop. She is survived by daughters Beryl Marshall (Alan) of Bussy St. George, France and Harriet Clawson (Robert) of Cochranville, Penn., U.S.A.; granddaughter Hilary Braley (David), Michigan. She was predeceased by her husband Harry. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777). At the request of the family, there will be no visitation or funeral service. www.furjongjones.ca

Â Born in Tidnish, she was a daughter of the late Earl and Myrtle (Baxter) Jackson. Â She was a former member of Lorneville United Church and WMS; life member of Pythian Sisters Elizabeth Temple 6, Amherst and member of Rebekah Lodge, Halifax. Â She had worked as a personal care worker for many years in Amherst and Halifax. Â She also worked as a clerk at Woolworth's, Amherst and Eatons, Halifax. Â Surviving are daughters, Doreen (Mrs. William MacIvor), Tidnish Bridge; Myrtle (Mrs. Charles Wagner), Waverley; son, Donald, Halifax; sister, Mrs. Marion Helpard, Amherst; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. PUGWASH – The death of Marion Elizabeth Helpard, 89, occurred at East Cumberland Lodge on Tuesday, February 17, 2009.
Born in Tidnish, she was a daughter of the late Earl and Myrtle (Baxter) Jackson.
Marion was a great cook and a well known caterer and seamstress. She enjoyed a game of Auction 45’s and was an active member of her card club.
She had a cottage at Jackson’s Point and returned every summer with ‘Patches’.
Marion will be sadly missed by two daughters, Caryl (Bill) Thornton, of Fredericton and Patricia (Junior Arseneau) Fields of Amherst; two sons, Wayne (Linda) of Amherst and Eric (Georgie) of Lorneville; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Besides her parents, Marion was predeceased by her husband Reginald and one sister, Madeline Embree.
Marion’s remains have been entrusted into the care and supervision of Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church Street, Amherst (667-8777).
Visitation will be held from the funeral home on Thursday, February 19, 2009 from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral at 2 p.m.
Interment will be in the Amherst Cemetery in the Spring.
Donations in Marion’s memory may be made to The Heart And Stroke Society or the charity of one’s choice.
