    On October 29, 1969, Ross, Darla, Robbie and Debbie were all axphxyated by a faulty furnace in the house they rented in Coldport, Piction Ontario. On the evening of October 28, 1969, Ross sent his family to the hospital. He had spoken with his sister Elvira on the phone. It sounded like he had a very bad cold. A neighbour from across the road drove them into Picton. They checked in at the hospital emergency, received ID wrist bands and were examined by the doctor on duty that evening. It was determined that they all had the flue and were sent home. At 12:00pm the following day, their neighbour from across the road came over to see how they were doing. They were all found dead.

    BAIRD, Helen - With her family by her side, the death of Helen Baird, 78 of Amherst occurred on Thursday, February 18, 2010. Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late Wilson and Catherine (Richardson) Rhindress. Helen is survived by her husband of 59 years, Gordon; son, Stephen (Dianna), Calgary, Alta.; daughters, Lindy (David Ripley) Baird and Cathy (Frank) Ripley, both of Amherst, and Nancy (Hugh) Calder, Halifax; brother, James (Andrea ) Rhindress, Amherst; grandchildren, Blaine Ripley, Shelley Calder, Jennifer Mills, Royleen Ripley; several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sister, Madeline (Ewan) MacDonald. Cremation has taken place under the care and supervision of Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst (902-667-8777) from where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 21st, Rev. Byron Corkum officiating. Donations in Helen's memory can be made to LA Animal Shelter or the charity of one's choice.

    MacDONALD, Madeline Mary - 76, Milford Street, Amherst, passed away Monday, February 9, 2004, in George DuMont Hospital, Moncton. Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late Wilson and Catherine (Richardson) Rhindress. She was educated at Amherst Senior High School. Madeline was employed with Maritime Tel & Tel as chief operator until her retirement in 1973. She was actively involved with the Acadia Chapter of Telephone Pioneers where she served as treasurer. Madeline was a member of First Baptist Church. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Ewan of 48 years; sister, Helen Baird (Gordon); brother, James (Andrea); nieces, Catherine Ripley (Frank), Nancy Calder (Hugh), Sharon Lynn (David); nephews, Douglas Rhindress (Wendy), Stephen Baird (Diana), Roderick Rhindress (Kathy), David Rhindress (Shirly); many great nieces and nephews. Her remains will rest in Cumberland Memorial Chapel, 23 Prince Arthur St., Amherst, Wednesday, February 11, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Madeline's funeral service will be held in the chapel on Thursday, February 12, at 2 p.m., Rev. Byron Corkum officiating. Burial will take place in Amherst Cemetery in the spring.     Judith Elsa (Froempter) Hughes (1942 -2015)
    Judith Elsa (Froempter) Hughes, 72, passed away on July 5, 2015, at Providence Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska.  She was born to Rudolph O. and Ruth (Richardson) Froempter on October 2, 1942 in Boston Massachusetts. Judith moved with her daughter, Noreen and her dog Christian, to Seward, AK in 1968. While in Seward she worked at Seward General Hospital and the Seward Clinic. She was an active participant in the Seward Resurrection Lutheran Church and volunteered with the Seward Ambulance Corp. In 1981 she moved to McGrath, AK. While in McGrath, she was employed by McGrath Light and Power, Joe's Bar/McGrath Roadhouse and retired from Iditarod Area School District in 2001. She volunteered at the McGrath Library. She moved to Anchorage, AK in 2001.  For several years she volunteered as an AARP tax preparer at the Spenard Recreation Center and Anchorage Senior Center. Judith loved to fish, she spent each August in Seward during the Seward Silver Salmon Derby, she also enjoyed camping. She loved to travel and enjoyed Reno, NV. She was an avid reader and an incredible cook. Her family said, "Judith was full of love and life, she had a wicked sense of humor and an unforgettable laugh. She gave sound advice for those that needed it and was an amazing, kind, and strong woman. She will be missed by many." Judith is survived by her husband, David Hughes; children, Noreen Skillman of California, Hilary Flockhart of Colorado, and Conrad Ward of Missouri; and grandchildren, Bryan, Brendon and Elsa Skillman of California.  No services are planned. Her ashes will be scattered along the Kuskokwim River in McGrath, AK, and Resurrection Bay in Seward, AK.  Remembrances may be made in any form so desired by friends.
