    OBITUARY

Oxford - Many friends here were saddened to learn of the passing of G. Ernest Black, 91, for many years a prominent lumberman. He passed away at Sunrise Villa Nursing Home at Pugwash on Feb. 19th, following a month's illness. Born at Glenville, Cumb. Co., on March 11th, 1878, he was the last surviving member of the family of the late Mr. and Mrs. George F. Black. He is survived by one daughter, Sylvia (Mrs. T.H. Berry) of Halifax, and one grandson, Ronald Berry, of Bridgeport, Conn. He was predeceased 8 years ago by his wife, the former Martha Jane Mattinson of Mount Pleasant. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Hirman and Frank, and four sisters, Flora E., Anna Belle and Mary Luetta Black, and Arathusia (Mrs. John Ryan). Of a quiet but friendly disposition, he had a host of friends. An expert millwright, he lumbered extensively until advancing years forced his retirement. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. The funeral was held from Black's Funeral Home on Feb. 21st, and was conducted by Rev. Bert. Collins. A mixed choir, with Mrs. Collins as organist, sang the hymns, "Abide With Me" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus". The pallbearers were Edwin Allen, Floyd Fraser, Grayden Dobson, Chas. Sumara, William Fraser and William Cloney. Honorary pallbearers were R.R. Hickman and R.D. Russell. There were many flowers as well as donations to the Heart Fund and Gideon Bible Fund.
