    DEWAR, Susan Dove - 91, Marshy Hope, Pictou County, died February 20, 1993, in St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born in Marshy Hope, she was a daughter of the late Wallace and Annie (Oulton) Dewar. In her early years, she taught in local schools. She was an adherent of Bethel Presbyterian Church, Marshy Hope. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Margaret; two brothers, Chester, Charles. The body is in Curry Brothers Funeral Home, visiting 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Barney's River Presbyterian Church, Rev. Bob MacLean officiating. Burial will be in Glen Bard Cemetery, James River. Family flowers only.

    Donations may be made to Bethel Presbyterian Church, Marshy Hope.

    Rev. Edgar Dewar dies in Springville DEWAR, Rev. Edgar Foote - 70, Springville, Pictou County, died May 27, 1993, at home. Born in Marshy Hope, Pictou County, he was a son of the late Chester and Mary (Foote) Dewar. He received his early education at Marshy Hope School. He was a graduate of New Glasgow High School and received his bachelor of arts degree from Acadia University, Wolfville. He graduated from the faculty of religious studies, Presbyterian College at McGill University, Montreal, and was ordained to the ministry of the Presbyterian Church of Canada. Most of his ministry was served in Pictou Presbytery with the exception of a term as chaplain with the Canadian Armed Forces, Chilliwack, B.C., and hospital ministry, Montreal. He served the pastoral charges of Gairloch, Hopewell-Eureka, Blue Mountain Garden of Eden, River John-Toney River, Springhill-Oxford and for the last 22 years, served the East River pastoral charge. He served as a clerk of the Pictou Presbytery and was moderator of both the Pictou Presbytery and Atlantic Synod. He was a member of Stellarton Male Chorus and Union Lodge IOOF 30, Springville, where he served as chaplain and past noble grand. He was a member of Silver Light Rebekah Lodge 79, Hopewell; grand master of the Atlantic Provinces in 1991 and was currently the past grand master of the Atlantic Provinces and grand representative to Sovereign Grand Lodge. As well, he served as grand chaplain of the Grand Lodge; member and chaplain of Canton Dryden No. 2, Westville and was currently chief patriach of Wawbeek Encampment No. 12, Hopewell. He served as chairman of the board of Maritime Oddfellows Home, Pictou and was an honorary member of Royal Canadian Legion, Eureka. He had a keen interest in his church and community. He is survived by his wife, the former Marjorie MacKenzie; two sons, Chester, Elgin; Eion, New Glasgow; two grandsons; a granddaughter; four brothers, Robert, Ernest, both of Marshy Hope; George, Truro; William (Bill), Halifax; four sisters, Helen (Mrs. Alex MacGregor), Big Island; Katherine (Kaye) (Mrs. Huntley MacDonald), James River; Christine (Mrs. Hugh MacLean), Sutherlands River; Margaret (Mrs. James Bowie), Halifax. He was predeceased by a sister, Gladys; brother, Roy. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today and Saturday in H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton, where combined IOOF services will begin 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday in Springville Presbyterian Church, Pictou Presbytery officiating. Burial will be in Bridgeville Cemetery.

    DEWAR, John Robert - 79, Marshy Hope, Pictou Co., passed away peacefully in St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish, Tuesday, November 16, 2004. Born in Antigonish, he was a son of the late Chester and Mary (Foote) Dewar. He was a resident of Marshy Hope his entire life and was an adherent of Bethel Presbyterian Church, Marshy Hope. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Arras Branch 59 of the Royal Canadian Legion, Antigonish. Bob was a school bus driver and an auto mechanic most of his working years, retiring from the former East Pictou Rural High School, Sutherland's River. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, the former Mildred MacLean; children, Johnnie, Jim (Linda), Donnie (Janet), Tommy, Eric (Mandy), all of Marshy Hope; Theresa, New Glasgow; Betty (Bob), Linacy; Peggy, Stellarton; Alex (Michelle), Edmonton, Alta.; 12 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; brothers, Ernest, Marshy Hope; Bill, Herring Cove; sisters, Kaye MacDonald, James River; Christine MacLean, Sutherland's River; Margaret (Jim) Bowie, Spryfield. He was predeceased by sisters, Gladys Dewar, Helen MacGregor; brothers, Roy, Rev. Edgar and George. His remains will rest in H.W.     MacLEAN (Dewar), Christine Gladys - 70, Sutherland's River, passed away suddenly in Aberdeen Regional Hospital on May 23, 2006, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Marshy Hope, she was a daughter of the late Chester and Mary (Foote) Dewar. Christine was a long-time resident of Sutherland's River. She taught school for 35 years in various rural schools throughout the county, retiring from East Pictou Rural High School. Christine was a member of Sutherland's River Presbyterian Church and organist in St. Andrew's Church, Egerton, for over 30 years. Christine was very active in the community and an avid card player, attending and organizing many card parties. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Surviving are sons, Kevin MacLean (Joanne), Keith (Brenda) MacLean; daughters, Karen (John) Chisholm, Marilyn (Derrick) Sandluck; grandchildren, Megan, Mallory and Abby MacLean, Tyler and Brittany Chisholm, Caitlyn, Breanna and Allie Sandluck; sisters, Kay MacDonald, Margaret (Jim) Bowie; brothers, Ernest (Mary Jane) Dewar, Bill (Sheila) Dewar; sisters-in-law, Mildred Dewar, Sylvia Dewar, and Marion Dewar. She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene "Hughie"; brothers, Rev. Edgar (Marjorie) Dewar, Robert Dewar, George Dewar, Roy Dewar; sisters, Gladys Dewar, Helen (Alex) MacGregor; and brother-in-law, Huntley MacDonald. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. today, and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in H.W. Angus Funeral Home Chapel with Jessie Johnson officiating. Burial will be in St. Andrew's Cemetery, Egerton. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Christine may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
