    TRURO - Harris Melville McCormick, 89, Alice Street, Truro, died Saturday in
    Colchester Hospital. Born in Mount Pleasant, Cumberland County, he was a
    son of the late Melville and Emma Jane (King) McCormick. He lived in Oxford
    and later moved to Stellarton and Truro. He was a retired railroad engineer
    and a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He was an adherent
    of Immanuel Baptist Church. He is survived by a son Carman, Truro; two
    daughters, Mrs. Anne Smith, Truro; Marcia (Mrs. Ivan Currie), Dartmouth;
    five sisters, Mrs. Stella Colquhoun and Edith MacDonald, both of New
    Glasgow; Laura MacPhee, Gloucester, Mass.; Zella (Mrs. Hugh Wallace),
    Blackwood, N.J.; Fern (Mrs. Thomas Forsythe), Moncton; three brothers, Alex,
    Franklin, Mass.; Earle, Mount Pleasant; Vernon, Oxford; nine grandchildren;
    14 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Ellen
    Jane Fraser, two sons, Alton and Collmaxie. The body is in Ettinger-Kennedy
    Memorial Residence, Truro, where funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday.
    Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Oxford. In lieu of flowers,
    donations may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church Memorial Fund or Canadian
    Diabetes Association.

    SMITH, Anne Marie - 80, Northwood Manor, Halifax, died March 7, 1998, in QEII Health Science Centre, VG Site, Halifax.  Born in Oxford, Cumberland Co., she was a daughter of the late Harris and Ellen (Fraser) MacCormack.  During her life, she has resided in Oxford, Amherst, Stellarton and Truro.  She was a member of St. James Presbyterian Church, Truro; Southern Cross Rebekah Lodge, Stellarton, and Lioness Club, Truro.  She enjoyed curling and singing in the choirs in Stellarton and Truro.  She had also worked as a nursing assistant in Colchester County Hospital for some time.  She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn (Mrs. Terrance Blower), Simcoe, Ont.; Judy, Dartmouth; sister, Marcia (Mrs. Ivan Currie), Dartmouth; brother, Carmen and wife Margaret, Bristol, N.B.; grandchildren, Dawn, Darren and Warren Laybolt; great-grandson, Troy; several nieces and nephews.  She was a predeceased by her husband Laird; brothers, Alton, and Coll Maxie.
     Visitation 11 a.m.-1 p.m. today and funeral service 1 p.m. Monday, both in the A.L. Mattattal Funeral Home, Dartmouth, Rev. Dr. P.A. McDonald officiating.  Burial in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens, Slyvester, Pictou Co.  No flowers by request.  Donations may be made to the Northwood Care Inc. or charity of choice.

    CURRIE, Marcia Fraser, RN - It is with deep sadness the family announces the passing of Marcia on July 28, 2009, in Dartmouth General Hospital at the age of 81. Born in Oxford, Cumberland Co., she was a daughter of the late Harris and Ellen Jane (Fraser) McCormack. She attended school in Oxford and graduated from Stellarton High School. In 1946 she entered the Aberdeen Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1949 with her RN. During her career, she worked in the Grace Hospital, Vancouver, Dartmouth Shipyards, Halifax Infirmary specializing in the Eye Clinic and the Dartmouth General Hospital until retirement in 1988. She was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, former member of the Dartmouth Curling Club and a volunteer for the Dartmouth General Hospital Auxiliary. She was a talented musician both piano and organ, made many beautiful crafts, and was very handy sewing for the entire family. One of her favourite pastimes was tending to her beautiful gardens which were a work of art. She was a doting grandmother to her three grandsons and spent many hours taking care of them over the years and making every holiday extra special with personalized packages from Nanny. She always put so much thought into every gift she ever gave. A present from Nanny was not just an ordinary gift. She was kind, generous and enjoyed doing all she could for others. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ivan; son, Paul and his wife Sandie (Burbine); loving grandsons, Craig, Kirk and Nicholas and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Alton, Carmen, Coll Maxie and sister, Anne. Cremation has taken place with private burial. Family flowers only. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, August 1, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, School Street, Dartmouth, Rev. P.A. "Sandy" McDonald officiating. A reception will follow the service in the church hall. Donations may be made to St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, the Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation or the charity of your choice.     McCORMACK, J. Gwendolyn, R.N. - 74, Montreal, Que., formerly of Oxford, passed away peacefully in Mount Sinai Hospital, Montreal, Saturday, October 21, 2006. Born in Mount Pleasant, Cumberland Co., she was a daughter of the late Earle and Verlie A. (Read) McCormack. Prior to her retirement she was employed as a registered nurse in various locations for a number of years. She was also employed as a public health nurse for a number of years. Surviving are sister, Willa R. Black, Oxford; brothers, Donald E. McCormack (Marion), Dartmouth; Eldon M. R. McCormack (Jean), Brookdale, Cumberland Co.; Victor R. McCormack, A. Roger McCormack (Wilna), Harris M. McCormack (Edna), all of Mount Pleasant. Also surviving are a number of aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by brother-in-law, Charles W. Black. Cremation has taken place at the request of the deceased and a private family graveside service will be held in Mount Pleasant Cemetery at a later date with Rev. Gary MacDougall officiating. Donations may be made to the local food bank at the request of the deceased. Arrangements are entrusted to Allen's Funeral Home, 60 Water St., Oxford.

    Donald Earle McCormack (July 20, 1930 - February 21, 2013), 82 of Lower Sackville and formerly of Dartmouth passed away February 21, 2013 at home with his loving family beside him after a long illness with Parkinson's disease and Dementia. Born in Mt. Pleasant, Cumberland County on July 20, 1930, he was a son of the late Earle and Verlie (Read) McCormack. Upon graduating from Oxford High School, he taught school for a year before starting his career of 42 years with the Bank of Nova Scotia in various locations throughout Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. He enjoyed being with his family and friends at their Amherst Shore cottage, taking pride in his garden as well as fishing in Annabel's Brook. He was an outdoorsman and loved walking in the woods in the fall with his friends. He and Marion enjoyed many trips in Canada, U.S.A., The United Kingdom and Europe. Don was a member of Knox United Church in Lower Sackville. He served on various committees and was an elder in other churches where he and Marion previously lived. He loved music, to sing songs and square dance with Benny Slade's Square Dance Club in Dartmouth for over 20 years. Don is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marion (Trueman); son, Walter (Nancy), Pugwash; daughter Marlene (Tim) Baglole, Lower Sackville; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sister Willa Black, Oxford; brothers, Eldon (Jean), Brookdale, Victor, Roger (Winnie), Harris (Edna), Mt. Pleasant; aunt, Ferne Forsythe (97 years), Moncton; brother-in-law, James Trueman, Amherst as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Don was predeceased by his sister, Gwendolyn; sister-in-law, Dorothy Trueman; brother-in-law, Charles Black; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert (Kathleen) Atkinson. Special thanks to the family, especially Walter, Marlene and Susan Baglole for their loving care which enabled Don to stay at home during his illness. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Drive, Lower Sackville where a memorial service will take place 2pm Tuesday, Rev James Fraser and Rev. Ross Bartlett officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home. Family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to the Parkinson's Society or charity of choice.
