NORTH VASSALBORO -- George A. Tingley, 92, died Friday, March 4, 2005, at Maine General Medical Center, Waterville.
He was born in New Brunswick on Feb. 13, 1913, the son of Watson E. and Annis M. (Small) Tingley.
In his younger days, he was known to cut ice blocks during the winter from local lakes, rivers and ponds.
He also enjoyed boating and fishing and formerly was employed for many years as a farmer, carpenter and millwright. He also had owned and operated a shingle mill business in North Vassalboro for several years.
He was retired from Duratherm Window Co. and the American Woolen Mill, both in Vassalboro.
He is survived by his stepdaughter, Cecile Kiely of Winslow; his six children, George Tingley and wife, Ethel, of Gambrills, Md., Raymond Tingley of Winslow, Marie Evans and husband ,Myron, of Winslow, Yvonne Pelletier of Windsor Locks, Conn., Alice Couture and husband, Bernard, of Benton, and Shirley Williams of Winslow; two sisters, Emily of Danvers, Mass., and Lounetta of Portland; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Anna Marie (Morneau) Tingley; three brothers, John, Edward and Philip Tingley; and three sisters, Melissa, Sue and Isadora; one grandson and one great-grandson.
Friends may visit with family from 7-9 tonight at Gallant Funeral Home ,10 Elm S., Waterville, where a funeral service will be held at 8 tonight, with Rev. Joseph Cahill officiating.
Committal prayers and burial will be later this spring in Forest City Cemetery in South Portland.
