    Charles Tupper Jackson, husband of Mrs. Charlotte A. Jackson, and a resident of West Chelmsford for the past three and one half years, died suddenly at his home on Crooked Spring Road yesterday. He was the son of John and Susan (Field) Jackson, and was born April 23, 1874 in Cumberland County, N. S. He was the brother of the late George H. Jackson of Forge Village and a carpenter by trade. Mr. Jackson was a former resident of Peabody. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Charlotte A. Jackson of West Chelmsford; three sons, Walter T. Jackson of Peabody, Herbert L. Jackson of Peabody, and George F. Jackson of Manning, Alberta, Canada; a sister, Mrs. Ralph Clement of Belfast, Me.; four nieces, Mrs. J. Clarence Burne of Westford, Mrs. Avery Smith of Ayer, Mrs. Howard Hatch of Belfast, Me., and Mrs. Charles J. Helm of Moncton, N. B.

    Interment will be in West Chelmsford Cemetery.

    AMHERST - The death of William Renaldo Smith occurred suddenly at his home on Eddy Street. He was 75 and a well known lumberman. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. H.H. Smith of Shinimicas. Besides his second wife Rena, he is survived by three daughters, Maude (Mrs. B.C. Gray) Edmundston, N.B.; Mrs. W.C. Oulton, Brantford, Ont.; Mrs. H.M. Ogden, East Amherst; six sons, Layton, Halifax; Arnold, Shinimicas Bridge; Victor, Tyndal Road; Austin, Shinimicas Bridge; Harold, Amherst and Allison, Oxford; three step-children Todd T. Trenholm, Baie Verte Road, Mrs. Robert Oulton, Amherst and Mrs. Layton Cameron, Amherst. The late Mr. Smith will rest at Furlongs Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held in the Shinimicas Bridge Church Sunday afternoon at 2:30.

    OXFORD - Mrs. Beatrice Bertie Keith, 72, of Oxford, formerly of Jordan Station, Ont., died Friday in All Saints Hospital, Springhill.  Born in Shinimicas, Cumberland County, she was a daughter of the late Stuart and Margaret (Gorveatt) Smith.  She was an adherent of the United Church of Canada.  Surviving are a daughter Greta (Mrs. Charles Wheeler), Oxford; a sister, Gladys (Mrs. Ted Steubling), Fairview, N.J.; and three grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her husband Laurie Carmen, two sisters, Martha and Myrtle, and three brothers, Grafton, Arthur and Floyd.  The body has been transferred from Allen's Funeral Home, Oxford to Brown Brothers Funeral Home, Hamilton, Ont., where funeral will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m.  Burial will be in Woodland cemetery, Hamilton.

Born in Tidnish, he was a son of the late John and Della (Trenholm) Gorveatt. He had worked at Robb's Engineering for over 25 years retiring with a perfect work record. He enjoyed old-time fiddle music. Surviving are his wife, the former Katherine H. Morrison, Port Williams; sons, Glane, Halifax; Dale, Port Williams; sisters, Margaret, New Glasgow; Beulah, Whitby, Ont.; brother, Arnold, Tidnish. He was predeceased by son, Glenn; brother, Floyd.     Mr. Arnold Richard Gorveatt
    March 11, 1921 - October 16, 2009

    It is with great sadness we announce the death of Arnold Richard Gorveatt on Friday, October 16, 2009 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan. Born in Lorneville NS, he was a son of the late John and Della (Allen) Gorveatt. Arnold was a building contractor in Ontario and Amherst area. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Shirley (Bob) Burgess of Cobourg, ON; son, Rodney (Barbara) of Amherst; granddaughter Terry Legere and grandson Michael Gorveatt; four great grandchildren, Katie, Megan, Aiden and Ashton; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife the former Frances Briggs; grandson Rodney Jr., granddaughter Kim Gilmour, and his brothers Floyd and Ralph and sisters Beulah and Margaret. A private visitation and funeral service will be held at a later date.     SACKVILLE, NB - The death of Donald K. Gorveatte, age 69, of Sackville, N.B., occurred on Wednesday, March 12, 2003 at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont Hospital, Moncton, N.B. Born on May 10, 1933 in Amherst, N.S., he was the son of Helen (Layton) Gorveatte and the late Borden Gorveatte. Donald played music and was involved in bands for over fifty years and he taught many children how to play the guitar over the years. He was very involved in charity and church affiliations and in his community. He worked for over thirty six years for the Government of Canada. Donald was a great lover of people and of all children. Donald will be sadly missed by his wife of nearly forty eight years, Shirley K. (Corey) Gorveatte of Sackville, N.B.; his mother, Helen Gorveatte of Sackville, N.B.; one son, David (Shirley L.) Gorveatte of Fredericton, N.B.; one daughter, Donna Gorveatte and special friend John McDonald of Moncton, N.B.; one brother, Rev. Dr. Kenneth (Anne) Gorveatte of Florida, USA; sister-in-law, Marg Gorveatte of Dartmouth, N.S.; five grandchildren, Matthew, Sarah and Emily Gorveatte, Rebecca and Jessica Jones; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Borden Gorveatte and a brother, Douglas Gorveatte. Arrangements are entrusted to Campbell's Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (364-8188). Vistitation will be held on Friday, March 14, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held from the Middle Sackville United Baptist Church on Saturday, March 15, 2003 at 2 pm with Rev.     SMITH, Layton Harris - 89, East Amherst, formerly of Amherst, died January 28, 1997, in Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born at Shinimicas Bridge, he was a son of the late William and Lilly (Oulton) Smith. He was a member of Sunrise Trinity United Church, Amherst Head. As a young man, he spent a few years in the Boston area before returning to Shinimicas Bridge to operate the family farm. He later moved to Amherst, where his wife operated a boarding house and he took on the Masey Harris Farm Equipment Agency, which he operated until the mid 1940s. He then carried on a business as a heavy equipment operator throughout the Maritimes. He spent about eight years in Chatham, Ont., before returning to Amherst and working with Modern Construction until his retirement. Surviving are his wife, the former Thelma Fillmore; adopted daughters, Muriel (Mrs. Allison Smith), Shinimicas Bridge; Barbara (Mrs. Denzil Yach), Shawville, Que.; foster daughters, Beryl (Mrs. Richard Linton), Grand Manan, N.B.; Shirley (Mrs. Basil Keney), Halifax; sisters, Maude Gray, Abbotsford, B.C.; Grace Oulton, Calgary, Alta.; brothers, Arnold, Allison, Shinimicas Bridge; Harold, Amherst; 22 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great great grandchildren.     SMITH, W. Arnold - 90, Shinimicas, passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2006 in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan, surrounded by his loving family. Born September 20, 1915 in Baie Verte, N.B., he was a son of the late William Renaldo and Lillie Victoria (Oulton) Smith. After graduating from Amherst Academy in 1933, Arnold worked in the woods building roads, driving teams, worked in the saw mill for his dad and did some survey work for Charles H. Read, an Amherst lumberman. In the 1940's he also did some work for the government, breaking up land with his own equipment and loading gravel. From 1936 until late 1978 Arnold was heavily involved in the logging industry while maintaining the family farm in Shinimicas. He logged for himself as well as for the T.C. Glennie Lumber Company (1949-51) and the McLellan (Cobequid) Lumber Company (1951-78). In late 1978 Arnold retired from the logging business and farmed full time. During his farming years he did a lot of land clearing to increase acreage. He never fully retired from farming until late 2005. Arnold was a member of Sunrise Trinity United Church, a choir member for many years, a church elder, a member of Sunrise Senior Citizens and a former member of the Cumberland County Beef Producers and the Cumberland County Federation of Agriculture, serving as both director and president. He enjoyed reading, gardening and watching hockey and wrestling. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and genealogy. Arnold is survived by sons, Arnold (Barb), Shinimicas; Stewart (Bev), Truemanville; Brian (Gretchen), Shinimicas; daughters, Hazel (Paul) Mahaney, Warren; Linda (Gerald) Clarke, Corn Hill, N.B.; Nancy Smith, Cole Harbour; daughter-in-law, Susan Smith, Shinimicas; brother, Harold (Jean), Amherst; sister, Maude Gray, White Rock, B.C.; 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, the former Pauline Fillmore (1994); daughters, Jean (2006) and Brenda (1988); son, Ross (2005); sisters, Dorothy Odgen, Grace Oulton, and brothers, Layton, Victor, Austen and Allison. His remains are resting in Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906) with visiting today from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in Sunrise Trinity United Church, Amherst Head, with Rev.     SMITH, Austin Hibbert - 71, Oxford Junction, died Sunday in All Saints Hospital, Springhill. Born in Baie Verte, Westmorland County, N. B., he was a son of the late William R. and Lilly V. (Oulton) Smith. He served in the Canadian Air Force. He was a retired sawyer, having worked many years for Cobequid Lumber Company, Oxford Junction. He is survived by two daughters, Jane Smith, Oxford; Susan Currie, Dartmouth; five brothers, Layton, Victor, Harold, all of Amherst; Arnold, Allison, both of Shinimicas, Cumberland County; three sisters, Dorothy (Mrs. Harold Ogden) Amherst; Maude (Mrs. Ben Gray), British Columbia; Grace (Mrs. Will Oulton) Ontario; four grandchildren; a great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Lidy Oulton. The body is in MacDiarmid's Funeral Home, Oxford, where funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday. Rev. Morley Bentley officiating. Burial in Shinimicas United Church Cemetery.

    Harold "Hummy" Renaldo Smith 1923-2015
    Harold "Hummy" Renaldo Smith of Amherst, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side. Harold was born April 14, 1923, a son of the late William Renaldo and Lillie Victoria (Oulton) Smith.
    He began working at age 16 and worked steadily in the lumber industry, trucking and as a bus driver.
    Harold is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of almost 60 years Jean Eleanor (Dunbar) Smith; many nieces and nephews, grand - nieces and grand - nephews. He was the last remaining member of his immediate family.
    He was predeceased by his sisters, Grace Oulton, Maude Gray, Dorothy Ogden; brothers, Arnold, Austen, Layton, Allison and Victor.
    Arrangements have been entrusted to Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS. No visitation or funeral service at this time. A graveside service will be held in the Shinimicas United Church Cemetery later in the spring.

    SMITH, G. Allison - 76, Shinimicas, passed away Thursday, July 26, 2001, at home. Born in Amherst, he was the youngest son of the late W.R. and Lily V. (Oulton) Smith. He had worked in many lumber mills during his life starting with his dad, then with T.C. Glennie Lumber Co., G. Wilson Lumber Mill and as a Millwright Foreman with the Cobequid Lumber Co. After retiring, he ran his own hobby lumber mill. He had owned maple woods in Wyvern. He was a member of Shinimicas United Church. He enjoyed old time country music and played the fiddle, guitar and banjo. He enjoyed gardening as he had his own farm and was an avid outdoorsman. He is survived by his wife, the former Muriel MacAloney Smith; daughters, Cheryl Thompson and husband Bob, Fall River; Dorothy Bezanson and husband Nelson, East Amherst; Catherine Smith, at home; sons, William "Bill" and wife Catherine, Lower Sackville; Thomas, Shinimicas; David, at home; sisters, Maude Gray, Surrey, B.C.; Grace Oulton, Calgary, Alta.; brothers, Arnold, Shinimicas; Harold, Amherst; grandchildren, Matthew, Laura, Nathan, Alex, Wesley, Gregory, Connor and Cameron.     SMITH, Sherman Francis - 78, 8 MacLean St., Truro, formerly of Bible Hill, died December 20, 1996, in William's Country Home, Hilden.  Born in Shinimicas, Cumberland Co., he was a son of the late George and Arnetta (Mills) Smith Blair.  He was a member of St. David's United Church and a retired mechanic with Dom-tar Ltd. and also worked with the Corps of Commissionaires.  He was an honorary member of Bible Hill Fire Brigade; member of the Royal Canadian Legion, branch 26, and the Canadian Order of Foresters.  He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting.  He is survived by his wife, the former Vivian McNutt; son, Wayne and wife Fay, Kemptown; daughters, Heather and husband Bruce Sandeson; Barbara and husband Steve Smith, all of Dartmouth; brother, Elbert, Bible Hill; grandchildren, Aaron, Andrea, Michael, Kevin, Sheryl, David, Christopher.  He was predeceased by his stepfather, Crawford Blair.  Cremation has taken place.  No visitation by request.  A memorial service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, Rev.     Raymond A. Jackson, 89, of War Veterans Ave in Moncton and formerly of 210 Wedgewood Ave. Riverview, passed away at Veterans Health Care Centre in Moncton on Wednesday, January 14, 2009. Born in Tidnish, NS he was the son of the late Ira Kirby Jackson and Della (Allen) Before his retirement, Raymond was the former owner the Jackson Save Easy on Pine Glen Rd. Riverview. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church, Cleveland Ave. where he was an active member of the St. Paul's fund raising committee. He was a charter member of the Riverview Lions and he was a member and former trustee of the Knights of Pythias. Raymond was a veteran and served overseas with the Royal Canadian Navy, he was also a member of the Riverview Veterans and Armed Forces Association. He is survived by his daughter Virginia Malchow (Larry) of Whitehorse, Yukon; his sons Glenn Jackson (Barb) of Saskatoon, SK. and Art Jackson (Joan) of Calgary AB; seven grandchildren Pamela, Patty, Judy, Clayton, Andrea, Kristin and Amanda; six great grandchildren; two sisters Gweneth Embree and Barbara Jackson both of Lorneville, NS; as well as nieces and nephews.     Gweneth Gertrude Embree- We mourn the passing of our greatly loved Gweneth Embree (nee Jackson), in her 90th year at Ottawa on November 29, 2010. Born September 6, 1921 in Tidnish, she was the daughter of Ira and Della Jackson.

    Gwennie grew up in Tidnish, NS, moving to Lorneville when she married Lester. Later, they moved to Riverview, NB, where they lived and worked for many years before retiring to their favourite place in the world, Lorneville. There they enjoyed over a decade together before Lester's death, enhanced by winters spent in Florida.

    Gwennie is survived by her loving sister, Barbara Jackson, and beloved children, Donna Crabtree (Duart), Evelyn Torgerson, widowed, Byron Embree, Jackie Schulten (Carl) and Mary Livesey nee Dobson (Tom Savin), and her loving and admiring grandchildren, Gregory Dorey, Glynn Livesey (Rosemary), Darren Livesey (Sharon), Paul Crabtree (Carolyn), Robert Crabtree (Dorothy), Charlene Dorey Togerson (Brant), John Crabtree (Sandra), Lisa Embree, Susannah Crabtree (Jeremy), Emily Schulten (Garth), Julie Embree (Mark), Amelia Schulten and Dylan Embree. She was beloved Gramma Gwennie to her great grandchildren, Daniel Livesey, Adam and Christopher Torgerson, Derrick and Brandon Livesey, Madeleine and Hannah Crabtree, Duncan, Justin and Miranda Crabtree, Alison Schifano, Alexander and Andrew Crabtree, Claire and Luke Anglesey. She was loved and respected by her nieces and nephews and friends for many years. She was predeceased by her husband Lester Embree, her infant son, Roderick, and her brothers Raymond Jackson and Noel Jackson.

    Gwennie was a wonderful role model to our family of unselfish love, fidelity, wit,industry,and resourcefulness. She never admitted defeat. She loved us all equally and was equally loved by all of us.

    Friends and family are invited to a memorial service to celebrate Gwennie's life at the Lorneville United Church at 11 a.m. on August 6th, 2011. Interment of her ashes in the Lorneville Cemetery and a reception at the church will follow.

    Friends who wish to make a charitable gift in Gwennie's memory may donate to the Lorneville United Church or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

    Barbara Margaret Jackson 1924-2013
    Barbara Margaret Jackson, 89 years of age, of Amherst, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2013 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. Born in Cape Tormentine , NB she was a daughter of the late Ira & Della (Allen) Jackson.She was heavily involved with music all her life. She performed with five different bands through out the years. She was a school teacher, in various provinces; a life skills coach and she taught adult education.
    She will be sadly missed  by daughters; Linda Landert (Renato) of Ottawa, Terrey Stafford (Brian) of Burlington; sons, Ray (Sharon) of Halifax, Donald of Lorneville; grandchildren; René, Daniela, Cameron, Scott, Christopher, Melissa, Jessica, Leanna & Shawna; great grandchildren, Sophie, Jacob & Ayla.
    Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her 1st Husband, John Oulton, 2nd husband, Eugene Jackson; sister, Gwenyth Embree; brothers, Raymond Jackson & Noel Jackson.
