    Marion Achsah Duffy

    Born: November 2nd, 1915
    Passed on: March 24th, 2008
    Marion Duffy (92) passed away on Monday, March 24, 2008 at the Spencer Nursing Home, Moncton, New Brunswick. Marion, born November 2, 1915 was the daughter of the late Vaughn Downing and Pearl (Steves) Downing of Lower Coverdale, N.B. She was the wife of the late Byron Everett Duffy of Dorchester, N.B. where she resided from the time of her marriage in 1937 until 2004, when failing health forced her to move to a retirement home in Riverview. Marion was a loving and caring wife, mother and homemaker since her marriage. She was a graduate of Aberdeen High School in Moncton in 1931, Success Business School in 1932 with a best in typing and worked for a short time with the Department of Agriculture in Sussex, N.B. Having a way with the written word, Marion entered the Moncton Times & Transcript Millennium Memories Contest in 2000, submitting two stories; one of her mother Pearl and another of her earliest memories of her childhood on Caledonia Mountain. For this she won a prize for being in the top 10 finalists and had both stories published. Later Dale Garland made mention of her memories in his publication of Caledonia Mountain after interviewing her in her 90th year. A member of the Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Sackville, N.B. for over 50 years and more recently the Riverview and Salisbury Congregations, she had some of her happiest moments telling the good news of God’s Kingdom to all who would listen. What joy it gave her to show from the Bible the reason for the strong hope she held in a resurrection from the grave to life here on the earth when the earth is restored to a paradise. Her surviving family also keenly looks forward to this prospect, these being her daughters, Janet (David) Johnson, Amherst, N.S., and Molly (late Ronald) Legere, Shediac, N.B. and her son, Frank (Donna) Duffy of Mississauga, Ont. Predeceased by her husband, Everett (1977) to whom she was married for 40 years; her son, Edward (1960) and her daughter, Barbara (Don) Beattie, RN, (1992), Ottawa, Ont. She also leaves six grandchildren including Kyle Johnson, Moncton, whose special kindness gave her so much happiness in her old age, and seven great grandchildren, all of whom reside in Ontario. Marion is predeceased by her sisters, Maisie (late Harry) Block, Halifax, N.S. and Marguerite (Charles) Newton, Florida, and two brothers, Burton (late Elva) Downing, Ottawa and Vaughn (Doris) Downing, Riverview, N.B. Cremation has already taken place. A memorial service was held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 71 King Street, Sackville, N.B., Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 2 p.m. www.brenansfh.com

    DOWNING, Donald Burton Suddenly in Ottawa, Tuesday, January 21, 2003 aged 79. Predeceased by his wife Elva Potter. Survived by three daughters Carolyn (Barry) Goodman and Dianne (Terras) Gavin of Ottawa and Jean Downing of Vancouver. Grandfather to Jennifer Gavin and Bradley Goodman. Also survived by brother Vaughn Downing (Doris), sister Marion Duffy of New Brunswick and sister Marguerite (Charles) Newton of Florida. Predeceased by sister Mazie (Harry) Block of Halifax. No funeral at his request. In memoriam donations to the Ottawa Heart Institute.

    Vaughn Herman Downing 1928 - 2007 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, Vaughn Herman Downing, Jr. 78, of Riverview and Cap Pelé on Sunday, July 8, 2007, with his family at his side. Born October 11, 1928 in Lower Coverdale, he was the son of the late Vaughn Herman Downing, Sr. and Beulah Pearl (Steeves) Downing. Vaughn started at the CN Rail Shops as a Boilermaker Apprentice in 1947 and worked his way up in CN Rail, CN Marine and it's counterpart, Marine Atlantic where he retired as Manager, Plant Development in 1985, after 371/2 years service. Beloved husband and soulmate of 55 years to Doris (Allen) Downing, loving father of Cheryl (Stephen Steeves), Shawn (Lindsay Crossman), and Erin. He cherished his grandchildren Leah Steeves, Brandon Crossman, Matthew and Ethan Downing and loved to make them laugh. Vaughn's first love was his family. He was a thoughtful and considerate man who was always there to encourage us, guide us, and to make us laugh. He was our rock and hero. Vaughn loved to garden and share it's bounty with neighbours, family and friends and even the occasional stranger. He was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He worked hard to provide the best life for his family. Vaughn is survived by his sister, Marion (late Everett Duffy) and many nieces, nephews and friends. Vaughn was predeceased by his parents; sister, Maisie; brother, Burton and sister, Marguerite. No visitiation by personal request. Funeral service will be held at St. George's Anglican Church at 51 Church Street in Moncton, NB, on Thursday, July 12 at 2:00 pm. Reception to follow. Interment at a later date. In Vaughn's memory, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Friends of the Moncton Hospital would be appreciated.     GOODMAN, Carolyn Joan (nee Downing) Monday, May 5, 2003, Carolyn Goodman, more than just a wife and best friend to Barry Goodman, more than just a mother, and mentor to Bradley. Carolyn never wanted to stand in the spotlight, instead she quietly stood in the background and allowed others to accept the applause. Always a lady, Carolyn was our Light. Dear sister of Diane Gavin of Ottawa and Jean Downing of Vancouver. Daughter of the late Burton and Elva (nee Potter) Downing. Carolyn will be fondly remembered by father and mother-in-law John and Elsie Goodman. A Family Service will be held at a later date.
