Clair WilfredMelanson
1924-2011
RIVER HEBERT – We are sad to announce the death of Clair Wilfred Melanson (Pooch), 87, of River Hebert, NS. After a lengthy stay at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst, NS, Clair passed away peacefully on September 2, 2011.
Born in River Hebert, NS, on April 23, 1924, he was the son of the late Leo and Beatrice (Como) Melanson.
Clair was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He spent his early years working as a truck driver for Albert Arseneau and at various coal mines in the area before going to work at the Cochrane Mine, which later became the River Hebert Coal Company, where he worked underground, on the bank-head and then as a hoist operator. He was employed there until the mine officially closed, 1980. He was one of the first members of the River Hebert Volunteer Fire Department and member of the Holy Name, St. Paul The Apostle Roman Catholic Church, River Hebert. He thoroughly enjoyed listening to and playing music with his friends, as well as a good game of Auction 45s, and cherished his time with his wife, family and extended family.
He was pre-deceased by his wife Marion (Richard), son Roddie, sisters Eileen and Helen, and brothers Ivan, Eugene and Basil.
He is survived by his children Billy, (Patsy), Kamloops; Reggie (Irene), Amherst; Peter (Theresa), Maccan; Johnny (Trudy), Advocate Harbour; Theresa (Junior), Moncton; and Albertine, Moncton. He is also survived by brothers Dara and Jude and a sister Lorraine. He will be greatly missed by 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
His remains are resting at Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, Main St., River Hebert, NS, (902)251-2877. Visitation will take place on Monday, September 5, 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will take place on Tuesday, September 6, 11:00 a.m. at the Saint Paul The Apostle Roman Catholic Church, River Hebert. Father David MacDonald officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Dennis Cemetery, Minudie.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Jozef Zaremba and all of the nurses and staff at the CRHCC for their support and compassion throughout his stay. The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Wanda Fullerton who provided him with many a good smile and chuckle over the past five years.

1929-2013
A. Dara Melanson, 84, of River Hebert passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, March 17, 2013. Dara was born in River Hebert on January 22, 1929, a son of Leo and Beatrice (Como) Melanson.
Dara was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church.
Dara had worked in the coal mines in River Hebert for over 30 years until their closure and was then employed in Amherst with Costin Paving And Contracting until his retirement.
He will be sadly missed by his family and all who knew him.
Dara leaves behind a daughter, Barb (John) Carter of Amherst; four grandchildren, Daniel of Fort McMurray, AB, Brittany (Kyle) Ouellette of Wabasca, AB, and Jillian and Meghan of Amherst; one great grandson, Carter Ouelette; a brother, Jude, Amherst; a sister, Lorraine Clark, Springhill, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Dara was predeceased by his wife Theresa (Maloney); brothers, Ivan, Eugene, Basil, and Clair, and sisters, Eileen and Helen.
Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, River Hebert (251-2877) from where visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Wednesday, March 20, 2013. A funeral service will be held 11am Thursday from St. Paul The Apostle Roman Catholic Church, River Hebert. Interment will be in the St. Denis Cemetery in the spring.

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Mary "Lorraine" Clark, of Springhill, on Thursday, July 30, 2015 in All Saints Hospital, Springhill. Born in River Hebert , she was a daughter of the late Leo & Beatrice (Cormier) Melanson.
Lorraine dedicated her life to raising her family. She was an avid fan of word search puzzles, enjoyed playing cribbage and loved to knit.
She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Betty (Robert) Dillimore of Minden, ON; sons, Thomas and Leo both of Springhill; four grandchildren, Amy, Bronson, Krystal & Hayden.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harold "Pappy" Clark in 1996, sisters Eileen and Helen, brothers Eugene, Claire Basil & Darrell.

E Victor Dujay 1915-2011
The death of E. Victor Dujay, 96, of New Glasgow and formerly of Joggins and Amherst, occurred peacefully at home on October 30, 2011. Born in Little River, NS, Victor was a son of the late John and Leanna (White) Dujay.
Victor worked for 23 years in the Joggins Coal Mines, then with TD Bank &Trust in Toronto. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, Holy Family Parish and most recently St. John The Baptist Church, New Glasgow. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 4, Joggins.
He was an avid baseball fan, and in particular, he was a huge fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. In his earlier years, he played for the Joggins baseball team.
Victor will be sadly missed by his wife, Jean (nee Burke); daughters, Alma(William) Mills of Joggins, June (James) Melanson of Dartmouth; a son, Ross (Mary) of New Glasgow; sister, Marcella McKay of Joggins; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by three infant children; a son, Stirling; a sister Jessie LeBlanc; brothers, Cornelius "Peewee", Wilson, Eric, Ronald, Carl, and Lester.
Arrangements have been entrusted into the care and supervision of Furlong~Jones Funeral Homes, River Hebert from where public visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral mass will be held at 11 am from the St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, Joggins on Thursday, November 3, 2011, with Father Gary MacPherson officiating. Following the service, Victor will be laid to rest in the St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery (Ragged Reef), Joggins.

Marcella Genevieve MacKay
1930-2017
Marcella Genevieve MacKay, 87, of Amherst, and formerly of Joggins, NS, passed away at the Northumberland Hall on Friday, September 15, 2017. Born in Joggins, Marcella was a daughter of the late John and Leanna (White) Dujay.
Marcella was a lifetime member of St.Thomas Aquinas Church and CWL for over 40 years, as well, she was a member of the Legion Branch 4 Auxiliary for 60 years, and the New Horizons Seniors Club. She enjoyed bingo, a good game of cards and singing. A caring and compassionate lady, her mission in life became attending to her family during their illnesses.
She will be sadly missed by a her good friend, Joyce Hoeg and family; her sister-in-law, Jean Dujay and many nieces and nephews
Marcella was the last surviving member of her family, besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Roy in 1997; her brothers, Victor, Lester, Wilson, Eric, Nealy, Ronald and Carl, and her sisters, Jessie and Marion.
Arrangements are under the care and supervision of Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, Main Street, River Hebert. A time of public visitation will be held from the funeral home on Monday, September 18, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm with parish prayers at 7:30.  A funeral service will be held from St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Joggins, on Tuesday at 11 am with a burial to follow at the parish cemetery.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to Joyce Hoeg and family, and to the staff of Northumberland Hall for their compassion and care.
Donations in memory of Marcella maybe made to St. Thomas Aquinas Church and St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery.

Weldon Bernard White

Surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, September 6, 2002 at the Hotel Dieu Hospital at 74 years of age. Beloved husband of Elsie. Loving father of Sharon(Brian) Seniuk and Sandra (John). Predeceased by two infant sons. Cherished grandfather of Shannon, Holly and Jenna, and Christopher,Laura and Shaun. Survived by his brothers Gordon (Sophie) and Girvan (Myrna). Predeceased by his sisters Doris and Hazel. Will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Mr. White was a member of St. Alfred's Church. Weldon "Whitey" was a retired employee of General Motors. Mr. White is resting at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St. until Wednesday at 10:30 am. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Alfred's Church at 11 am. Cremation. Visiting hours are Monday 7-9 pm and Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Vigil prayers will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday at 3 pm. Memorial remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. "Rest in peace, dad."

Norena"Nonie" White
1933-2010
The death of Norena (Nonie) White, age 77, of River Hebert, occurred at the Moncton City Hospital on Thursday, October 14, 2010.
Born in River Hebert, she was a daughter of the late Amos and Frances (Burbine) Melanson.
A member of St. Paul's Church, River Hebert, she was an avid country music fan and enjoyed Bingo and Bowling.
Nonie will be sadly missed by her son Eric (Lola) Melanson, River Hebert, a step-son Wayne (Yulanda), Mississauga, and a step daughter, Susan, Hamilton; 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Alice Spence, River Hebert and Jeannette (Gerald) Hatfield, Amherst. She was predeceased by her 1st husband, Lester Ward in 1975 and her second husband, Orel White in 2007, by a brother Harold Melanson, a sister Evelyn Spicer and by step-sons, Larry, Michael and Kenny.
Nonie's remains have been cremated under the direction of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, River Hebert from where visitation will be held on Sunday, October 17 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm with Parish Prayers at 8 PM. Funeral mass will be celebrated from St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, River Hebert on Monday, October 18, 2010 at 11 am, burial in St. Denis Cemetery, Minudie. Â
