Obituary for Velma Owen
The passing of Velma Ruth Owen of Fredericton, NB occurred on Monday, February 19, 2018 at Paradise Villa Seniors Residence. Born in Indian River, PEI on October 15, 1938 she was the daughter of the late Erskine Hunter and late Rosie (Wall) Brown.
Before retirement, Velma was an owner of various businesses, most notably the Meaford Nursing Home in Ontario and Molly's Canteen and Cottages in PEI. She was also a globe trotter, had many furry companions over the years, and was known to lend a helping hand up to those in need.
Velma is survived by her daughter, Sue Carr (Bruce); sons, Preston (Sharon), Paul (Tanya) and David (Charmaine); sister, Olive Bryanton; sister–in–law, Linda Hunter; grandchildren; Amanda (Dennis), Sarah (Adam), Michael (Stacey), Tiffany (Mark), Gary, Amber, and Katie, nine great–grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Velma was predeceased by a grandson, Justin Owen; brothers, Preston and Elwood Hunter.
There will be no public services at the family’s request. Interment will take place at a later date in Meaford, Ontario.
Donations in Velma’s memory may be made to the Humane Society or the Alzheimer Society.
We would like to acknowledge and thank the staff and management at Paradise Villa for their compassionate and loving care. She had many friends there. We would also like to thank Dr. Saunita MacMullin for her dedication to mom's needs and always being there when needed.

OWEN, Justin Lee - Born in Meaford on July 29, 1981 and lovingly remembered by his mother Brenda (nee Vail) Owen of Owen Sound and father Preston Owen and his wife Sharon of Thornbury, Justin passed away peacefully and in the presence of his loving family in Meaford on Friday February 19, 2016 at the age of 34. He will be remembered as a beloved husband and companion by his wife Becky (nee Gallinger) of Meaford and as the cherished Daddy of their son Bentley. He will be sadly missed as a loved brother of Tiffany Owen and her dear friend Mark Ross of Barrie and as a dear brother to Brooke Satchelle of Thornbury. Justin will be recalled with affection by his mother-in-law Sherry Gallinger of Meaford and as a special brother-in-law to Brady Gallinger and Connie Rogers of Meaford, and Bob and Nicole Gallinger of Cambridge and also by his several nieces and nephews. He will be remembered also by grandparents Velma Owen of Fredericton, NB, Bill Vail of Meaford and Bruce and Betty Osborne of Thornbury. Cremation has taken place and a memorial gathering celebrating Justin's life will be shared at the Meaford and St. Vincent Community Centre on Saturday March 19th from 4 until 9 p.m. Justin's ashes will be interred at Lakeview Cemetery, Meaford. In keeping with Justin's love of children and family and as your expression of sympathy in lieu of flowers, donations to an educational trust fund established for Bentley at the TD Canada Trust in Thornbury or to Bobi's Play School in Meaford to support programming and equipment there would be appreciated and may be made through the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME , 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON N4L 1B9 (519-538-1320) to whom arrangements are entrusted.
