Obituary
MELANSON, Irene - 92, Amherst, passed away in Gables Lodge in Amherst on Thursday, November 30, 2006. Born in Mill Creek, she was a daughter of the late Louis and Jennie (DesBarres) Terrio. Irene was a long term member of Nativity of Our Lady Parish, and Nativity of Our Lady Parish CWL; past president, she was a recipient of the Maple Leaf Service Pin. She was an amateur historian and genealogist who researched and compiled many families' histories. Irene was awarded the Canadian Heritage Award for the restoration of St. Denis' Church in Minudie. She will be sadly missed by her husband, Fred Melanson, West Amherst; sons, Warren (Anne Matheson), Halifax; Arnold (Eleanor), Truro, and Gerald (Patricia Robertson), Halifax; grandchildren, Andrea, Nadine, Sarah and Joseph; great-grandson, Nicholas; sister, Francis Legere, River Hebert; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her infant sister, Modeste; brothers, James, Ronald, Jude, and Joseph, and great-granddaughter, Jenica Saulnier. Arrangements have been entrusted to Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst (667-8777). Visitation will take place in Furlong~Jones Funeral Home on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Parish prayers will take place at the funeral home Sunday night at 8 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated in the St. Charles site of Holy Family Parish, 63 Church St. on Monday at 10 a.m., Father Vernon Driscoll officiating. Burial will take place in Saint Charles - Nativity Parish Cemetery.
