Reta Isabel Smith (Davidson)
1923-2007
SMITH (Davidson), Reta Isabel - Lower Shinimicas, Cumberland Co., passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2007, in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan. Born in 1923 at Tidnish Bridge, N.B., she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Bertha (Strang) Davidson.
She was a graduate of the Provincial Normal School, and taught for nine years at schools in West Amherst, Fenwick, Salem, Amherst Shore, Lorneville and Tidnish Bridge before her marriage in 1951. In later years she worked as bookkeeper for Cumberland Rural Telephone Co. She was an active member and treasurer of the Lower Shinimicas UCW and the Sunrise Senior Citizens for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Morley; sons, Alford, Lower Shinimicas; Arthur, Toronto; daughters, Karen (John MacLeod), Dartmouth, and Sheila, Lower Shinimicas; sister-in-law, Mildred Davidson, Pointe Claire, Que., and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Herbert (Kay), Edwin, Arnold and Arthur, and her sisters, Jessie (in infancy), Jennie (Victor) Smith and May (Thomas) Read, as well as half-sister, Margaret (Cyrus) Smith, and half-brother, William (Muriel) Davidson.
Visitation will be held in Furlong-Jones Chapel (64 Church St., Amherst) on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. in Furlong-Jones Chapel conducted by Rev. Stephen Longmoore, with interment in Riverside Cemetery, Tidnish Bridge. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, Canadian Diabetes Association or Sunrise-Trinity United Church.
