    Grace E. Lee
    1919-2011

    Grace E. Lee, age 91, of Sackville and formerly of Amherst, passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, March 13, 2011, at the Drew Nursing Home. Born in Coverdale NB, she was a daughter of the Late Leon and Sarah (Hicks) Hoeg.

    Grace was a long time member of The Salvation Army, The Home League and The 2nd Fifty Club. She enjoyed Knitting, Crocheting, Quilting, Gardening, Cooking, and doing crossword puzzles.

    Grace will be sadly missed by her son, Howie (Anne) Lee, of BC; daughter Kathy (Wayne) Hicks, of Wood Point, NB; grandchildren, Howard (Terri), Katie and Abby Lee, Kaye (Ron) Quitteden, Wendy, and John Albert Bree, Roxann and Shawn Williams,  Matthew, Brandon, Nathan and Lucas Hicks, several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and one sister, Emma Conrad.

    Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Howard Henry Lee; daughters Barbara Bree and Betty Ann Williams; sisters, Violet Wells and Barbara Creelman, brothers, Norman, Warren and two brothers in infancy, William and John; as well as one grandson, Howard James Bree.

    Arrangements have been entrusted to Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St, Amherst (902-667-8777). Family and friends are invited to visit at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 16, from 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held from the funeral home on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 11 am.  Pastor Morris Mills officiating. Burial will take place in the Amherst Cemetery in the spring. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Grace may do so to the Salem Baptist Church or the Drew Nursing Home.

    HOEG, Norman Vaughn - 83, College Road, Bible Hill, passed away Saturday, December 9, 2006, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born August 19, 1923, at Sackville N.B., he was a son of the late Warren Leon and Sarah Agnes (Hicks) Hoeg. A bandsman for many years, he played in bands in Amherst, Joggins, Moncton and Truro. He was a past president of the Truro Concert Band. He helped start the Legion Lyrics and Musical Vets. He was an Honorary Member of the Truro Fire Brigade, having served as Ward 3 Lieutenant. He was a member of Fellowship Lodge No. 112, A.F. & A.M. He was a veteran of the Second World War serving with the 2nd Canadian Infantry Division Engineers in Canada, Great Britain, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was a past president and past secretary of Colchester Branch No. 26, Royal Canadian Legion, of which he was a life member. He was also awarded the Legion Meritorious Service Medal and Palm Leaf. He moved to Truro in 1950 where he established a branch of Nelson's Dry Cleaners and purchased in 1952. He had a great love for woodworking, especially the wood lathe. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, the former Martha Weirich; son, Richard Hoeg (Sarah), Truro; daughter, Norma (Norman) MacKenzie, Truro; grandchildren, Stephen, Rickie, Paula, Jennifer, Michael; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Grace Lee, Amherst; Emma Conrad, Truro; Barbara (Ronald) Creelman, Orleans, Ont. He was predeceased by sister, Violet Wells; brother, Warren; two brothers in infancy, William and John. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. today in Mattatall Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro, where a Legion tribute service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, followed by funeral service at 3 p.m., Rev. Gordon Delaney officiating. A reception will follow in the Royal Canadian Legion Lounge. Burial will be held at a later date in Crossroads Cemetery, Valley. Family flowers only.     CREELMAN (Hoeg), Barbara J. - February 19, 1936 - November 28, 2007.

    Peacefully with grace and dignity in Ottawa Civic Hospital, surrounded by her family. Barbara was born in Amherst, a daughter of the late Sarah Agnes (Hicks) and Warren Leon Hoeg. She was the dearly loved wife and best friend of Ron; proud mother of three beautiful daughters, Michelle Bettencourt of Maple Ridge, B.C.; Patty Parmiter (Ray) of Darmstadt, Germany; Cynthia (Steve Schramm) of Alexandria, VA. She is also survived by sisters, Emma Conrad of Truro, and Grace Lee of Amherst; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her sister, Violet Wells; brothers, Warren and Norman Hoeg and two brothers in infancy, William and John. After high school in Amherst, she moved to Truro and worked for T. Eaton Company before marrying Ron, continuing her life journey as an RCAF wife. She was a consummate military wife, serving at Ron's side at many bases throughout Canada and the United States raising her three girls and always participating in the social and charitable activities of these communities. On retirement to Ottawa, after their final posting to the Canadian Embassy in Washington, D.C., Barb energetically pursued many interests: rug hooking, gardening, traveling, bowling to name a few. Barbara loved life and will be missed. The family will receive relatives and friends in Heritage Funeral Home, 2871 St. Joseph Blvd., Orléans, on Friday, November 30, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. A ceremony in her memory will follow at 12 p.m. in Heritage Chapel. Private family interment will be held on Saturday, December 1, in the National Military Cemetery (within Beechwood Cemetery).     Betty Ann Williams
    1944-2010

    Amherst, NS – It is with great sadness that the family of Betty Ann Williams, age 66, announce her passing at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on December 15, 2010 after a short but courageous battle with Cancer. Born in Amherst on November 17, 1944, Betty was the daughter of late Howard Henry Lee and Grace Eliza (Hoeg) Lee.

     In addition to being a daughter, sister, wife and mother, Betty was a former employee of the Saint John Sugar Refinery, the Amherst School for the Deaf and the Drury Lane Steakhouse in Fort Beausejour, NB.  She was an avid card player, loved the beach and camping in her younger days.  She was also fondly known as “Aunt Bette” to many of the children in the neighbourhood in which she lived for the past 40 years.

    Betty is survived by her husband of 44 years, Eugene Williams of Amherst; two daughters, Roxann and Shawn Williams, both of Amherst; mother, Grace Lee, formerly of Amherst; brother Howard (Anne) Lee of Mission, BC; sister Kathy "Kim" (Wayne) Hicks of Wood Point, NB; sister-in-law Heather (Alex) Thomas of Halifax, NS. She was a grandmother to Melissa Duguay, of Amherst, and a great grandmother to Cassidy and Parker Dwyer also of Amherst. She was was an Aunt, Great Aunt and Great Great Aunt to numerous nieces and nephews in Amherst NS, Halifax NS, Mission BC, Amherstburg and Windsor ON.

    Besides her father, Betty was predeceased by her sister Barbara Ann (Lee) Bree, nephew Howard John Bree, and brothers-in-law Dana Williams and Beverly Williams.

    Cremation has taken place under the care of Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church Street, Amherst, (902-667-8777). There will be no visitation by her own request. A graveside service will be held in the Amherst Cemetery at a later date.

    The family wishes to express their sincere thank you to Dr. Akinson and the nurses of the Pallative Care Team at the CRHCC.

    Should family and friends desire, memorial contributions can be made in Betty’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Pallative Care Unit at the CRHCC  or the Canadian Red Cross.

    Richard Leon "Rich" Hoeg 1944-2011
    Richard Leon "Rich" Hoeg - 67, Truro, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday evening, July 14, 2011, at Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born February 26, 1944, in Springhill, he was the beloved son of Martha (Weirich) Hoeg, Valley, and the late Norman Hoeg. Rich joined the military in 1964 and served at HMCS Cornwallis, HMCS Shearwater and aboard the HMCS Bonaventure, before returning to Truro in 1967. He worked at Nelson's Cleaners, taking ownership in 1978 and retired from there in 1992. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Along with his mother, Rich is survived by his wife, Sarah (MacKenzie) Bonnell; sons, Stephen (Lynn), Truro; Rick (Julie), Tatamagouche; daughter, Paula (David) Crocker, North River; step-daughters, Cindy Bonnell, Surrey, British Columbia; Cathy (Marc) Hynes, Medicine Hat, Alberta; sister, Norma (Norm) MacKenzie, Tatamagouche; nine grandchildren; one great grandson; one niece; one nephew. Special thanks are extended to Dr. Trevor Locke and the staff of Floor 4 East, Colchester Regional Hospital.
