    Leona Minnnie Fullerton 1921-2015

    Leona Minnie (Hicks) Fullerton
passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness at the Drew Nursing Home in Sackville, NB at the age of 94.
She was a veteran of WW2 with CWAC, serving in England.Leona is survived by her son Dr. Gordon Fullerton (Michelle Amiro) and a granddaughter, Samantha Fullerton, all of Halifax, NS. She is also survived by a sister and twin brother; Doris Carter and Ted Hicks, both of Sackville, NB and several nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon U. Fullerton, her parents; Harris Hicks and Sarah (Ibbitson) Hicks and two sisters; Myrtle Mitton and Marjorie McLeod. She loved her parents and her siblings (and their children) and she spoke about them often.
Born in Nova Scotia, her family moved to Sackville when she was a young child. Leona grew up during the great depression and this was a defining event in her life. Leona was a proud veteran of the Second World War, having served overseas in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps.  After the war she returned home to Sackville where she worked in retail before meeting her future husband while playing golf at the Sackville Country Club.  She enjoyed the sun and the beach and her fondest memories were of the summers spent with her family in Upper Cape, NB. Christmas was her favorite time of the year and she was happy pretending to serve tea with her little granddaughter.
There will be a private internment ceremony at a later date. In lieu of flowers or donations to a charity, please feed some birds.  She loved feeding and watching them.
The family would like to thank the staff and physicians at the Drew Nursing Home and for their attentive care during her final years of life.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville, NB (506-364-1300).  Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting the online memorial at www.jonesfuneralhome.ca or by visiting the funeral home Facebook page.

Peacefully with grace and dignity in Ottawa Civic Hospital, surrounded by her family. Barbara was born in Amherst, a daughter of the late Sarah Agnes (Hicks) and Warren Leon Hoeg. She was the dearly loved wife and best friend of Ron; proud mother of three beautiful daughters, Michelle Bettencourt of Maple Ridge, B.C.; Patty Parmiter (Ray) of Darmstadt, Germany; Cynthia (Steve Schramm) of Alexandria, VA. She is also survived by sisters, Emma Conrad of Truro, and Grace Lee of Amherst; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her sister, Violet Wells; brothers, Warren and Norman Hoeg and two brothers in infancy, William and John. After high school in Amherst, she moved to Truro and worked for T. Eaton Company before marrying Ron, continuing her life journey as an RCAF wife. She was a consummate military wife, serving at Ron's side at many bases throughout Canada and the United States raising her three girls and always participating in the social and charitable activities of these communities. On retirement to Ottawa, after their final posting to the Canadian Embassy in Washington, D.C., Barb energetically pursued many interests: rug hooking, gardening, traveling, bowling to name a few. Barbara loved life and will be missed.
