Beckwith, Aug. 5 - This community was deeply shocked to learn of the sudden death of Mrs. Lucinda Mattinson which occurred on Monday evening, July 29th.  Mrs. Mattinson had the misfortune to fall and fracture her hip two weeks previously.  Hopes were held for her recovery and she seemed to be improving but complications set in and death followed.  She was born in Mount Pleasant in 1855, her maiden name being Lucinda McCormick.  In 1873 she married Joseph Mattinson and lived in Lake Killarney till the death of her husband, who predeceased her twenty-six years ago.

Barbisy (May) of Merrimas, Mass.  She also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Mary Johnson, East Leicester, Mrs. Dora Dickie, Mount Pleasant, and Mrs. Ursula Darby, residing in Mass., U.S.A.  Thirteen grandchildren also survive one who tenderly cared for her since the death of her husband and from whose home she was buried.  Twenty- great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren also survive.
Mrs. Mattinson was a woman of sterling Christian principles and will be greatly missed in this community and in the church and W.M. Obituary

Beckwith, Jan. 4 - This community was shocked and saddened by the passing of Ava Jane Mattinson, wife of William F. Mattinson, Beckwith, on Christmas night.  Mrs. Mattinson had been in failing health for the past three months.  Born at Little River in 1901, the daughter of the late James and Eva Eaton, she spent most of her married life in Beckwith, where her friendly disposition won her a wide circle of friends.  She was keenly interested in her church and will be greatly missed in the Missionary Society of which she had been a member for many years.  Surviving are her husband, William Mattinson, one daughter (Bernice) Mrs. Hubert Collins, one granddaughter Ellen and a brother, Charles Eaton of Halifax, Mass.  The funeral service was held on Sunday, Dec. 27th, at 2 o'clock from the home of her daughter at Beckwith and was largely attended.  Rev. John Porter officiated, reading portions of scripture from the Psalms and he spoke words of comfort to the bereaved family.  Hymns sung were favorites of the deceased, "Take Time To Be Holy" and "Break Thou the Bread of Life".  Pallbearers were Peter Wood, Lorne Wood, Lloyd Wood, Lester Fraser, Arthur Mattinson and Harry Leadbetter.  Interment was in Birch Grove Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant with Mr. Frank Black, Oxford, as funeral director.  The floral tributes were as follows ...(I did not transcribe floral tributes.)
