    Obituary

Anne Oulton Galt, 91, of 755 Central Ave. passed away at the Wentworth Douglass Hospital on Saturday, May 24, 2003.
Born in Madison, ME on September 17, 1911, she was the daughter of George Edwin and Ella Beatrice Oulton. Beginning her education in a one-room schoolhouse, she moved with her family first to Skowhegan, ME, then to Nashua where she graduated for Nashua High School in 1929. She then graduated from Keene Normal School in the Class of 1932, and served as a teacher in the Hanover school system for 10 years before leaving the profession after getting married. During World War II, she lived in Mt. Holly, NJ, finally settling in Dover in 1946.
Anne served in the Wentworth Douglass Hospital Auxiliary, was a president of the Strafford County Medical Auxiliary, and was both secretary and president of the Women’s Auxiliary to the NH Medical Society. She was very active in the Dover community; she served as Ward One Selectman for many years, Captain and Solicitor for the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Drives, a staff member of the Dover 350th Celebration and had been secretary of the Dover Chapter of the American Red Cross.
A 50-year member of the Pioneer Garden Club, she served as secretary and director and as Chairman of the Literature, American Home and Music Departments. Anne loved everything musical, and sang in choirs and groups wherever she could: church choirs as a youth, in roles in high school and college productions, the Garrison Players, the General Electric Glee Club, the Dover Senior Citizens Glee Club and, for more than 20 years, she was treasurer for the Dover Community Concert Association.
Ann was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church since 1946; played in its handbell choir for many years and sang in the Senior Choir for more than 56 years. She loved to play the piano for family and friends. At St. John’s she served as president of the Mother’s Club, president of the Women’s Society of Christian Service, and was Membership Secretary for more than 30 years. A member of the United Methodist Women, she was active in the Women in Service Helping Circle, various Bible Study groups, and served as a member of the Administrative Board.
She loved Greek Dancing and playing bridge with her friends. Ann was an avid gardener, loved all her flowers and enjoyed the many birds in her yard. She loved life and her independence—making many friends at Weeks, Friday’s, Peppercorns and Strafford Farms after she stopped cooking her own meals. Her energies seemed boundless; her thoughtfulness toward friends and family will be long remembered. Anne continued as many of her activities as her age and endurance would allow, right to the very end of her life.
She is survived by two sons and their wives, John Edward and Sally Galt of Everett, WA, Jesse Andrew and Susan Galt of Dover; two grandchildren, Evan Galt and Sarah Galt of Seattle, WA; a brother and his wife, George and Beatrice Oulton of Windham, CT. She also leaves nieces Linda Oulton, Barbara Anstett and Carol Peterson, all of Connecticut, cousins Frank and Edward Oulton, both of Cumberland, ME, and Dorothy Gould of Colebrook.
Funeral services were held at St. John’s United Methodist Church, with the Reverend Anne Robertson, pastor officiating. Burial followed in Pine Hill Cemetery.
Those who wish are invited to make memorials in her name to St. John’s United Methodist Church, 28 Cataract Ave, Dover, NH 03820 or to the charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements are with the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave, Dover.
