LAKEVIEW PLANTATION - Tex C. Strang, 80, retired master sergeant, U.S. Air Force, passed away Feb. 16, 2010, at his residence. He was born June 4, 1929, in South Brewer, son of Charles Tupper and J. Maud (Stewart) Strang. Tex attended schools in South Brewer and concluded his education after graduating from the eighth grade. At the young age of 14, he worked full time for Eastern Fine Paper Co., and in 1946 at the age of 17, Tex enlisted in the U.S. Army and was assigned to the 34th Combat Engineer Battalion with occupation forces in Korea during World War II. Shortly after his discharge, Tex enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and retired in 1968 after proudly serving his country for 22 years. During his military career he received many decorations and awards, including the Bronze Star Medal and Republic of Vietnam Medal of Honor, "second class." Tex completed overseas tours of duty in Korea, England, Alaska, Vietnam, and stateside duty at Fort Bliss in Texas, and Dow Air Force Base and Loring Air Force Base in Maine. His Masonic affiliations included membership in Kenduskeag Lodge No. 137 AF & AM of Kenduskeag, Scottish Rite Bodies and Anah Temple Shrine of Bangor. He was a member of Isaac E. Clewley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4917 of Brewer, American Legion of Maine, Disabled American Veterans, Air Force Sergeants Association and a lifetime member of the Maine Trappers Association. Tex had great pride in his country and his beloved state of Maine. He spent many happy hours living in the home he constructed on the shore of Schoodic Lake and frequently remarked that he was the luckiest person in the world to be able to live in such beautiful surroundings. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Tex was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Jeanne (McDonald) Strang; three sisters, Ruby M. Matheson, Shirley Duncan and Louise Strang; and six brothers, Nelson M. Strang, W. Stewart Strang, Richard M. Strang Sr., Charles G. Strang, Wilbur H. "Bucky" Strang and Ross G. Strang. Price of Lakeview Plantation; a special niece, Gail Strang Stewart of Unity; a special nephew, Glenn Strang of Brewer; and dear friend and caregiver, Glenda Heal of Milo.
