    Obituary

    Emile “Mickey” L Cormier, 1939-2021

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Emile "Mickey" L. Cormier announces his peaceful passing at the Dr. Georges-L-Dumont UHC on July 8th, 2021. Born in Shediac, NB, he was the eldest son of the late Aldéric and Dina (McGraw) Cormier.
A lifelong passion with water, Mickey navigated his life with a nun charted path. Saving lives at Parlee Beach as a young lifeguard, diving as a rescue scuba diver, learning the ropes in the sailing world at the yacht club, blowing the bugle causing him to fall in love with music and carving sharp lines at numerous ski hills, Mickey had a zest of life like no other. He spent a life on the road in sales where he made many long lasting relationships. He lit up a room telling his passionate stories, sharing his vast knowledge or telling a great joke. He was a master of trades and had one of the most selfless souls around. Whether you needed a helping hand, a volunteer, some advice or a moment of his time; he would drop everything no matter who you were. When Mickey had an idea it usually did not take long for it to be sketched or planned. He was instrumental in many events that took place in the local area including the Shediac Bay and Northumberland Strait sailboat races and both the Moncton and Shediac Bay Jazz Festivals. He was a longstanding member and great supporter of Able Sail/Handi-Voile Accessible Sailing program, the Northumberland Strait Yachting Association, NB Sailing Association, Shediac Bay Ski Club, Poley Mountain, Club Boishébert in Shediac and many more.
Mickey is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Florence (Vautour); his daughters: Lisa (Kevin) and Laura (Nancy); as well as his sister, Laura Cormier (Vincent).
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Hector.
The family wishes to express gratitude to the extraordinary medical and nursing staff of unit 4C and to the ICU specialized team at the Dr.Georges-L-Dumont UHC for their special care of Mickey.
The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 396 Main Street, Shediac on Tuesday July 13 from 1 to 3 pm and 6 to 8 pm only. Due to the pandemic, face coverings are required and a maximum participation of 100 people at a time with social distancing regulations are in effect.
A private funeral service will be celebrated. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to AbleSail/Handi-Voile or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Emile married Florence Vautour (daughter of Arthur Vautour and Elizabeth Brun) [Group Sheet]
