MacRAE- Surrounded by her loving husband Jim and family, Pamela Jean MacRae, age 68, passed away peacefully at 9:02 pm on May 27 at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a sudden and short illness.
She is predeceased by her parents William and Edythe (Oulton) Owen and brother Bill (Lucille) Owen. She is survived by her husband Jim MacRae, sister Brenda (Frank) Creighton, brothers Jim (Anne) Owen, Arthur (Annette) Owen, sister in law Linda (Charles ) Campbell, nieces and nephews Heather (David) Creighton Spriet, Chris (Melissa) Creighton, Stephen (Angela) Campbell, Megan Owen, David (Jennifer) Owen; and grand nieces and nephews Maddy and Owen Spriet, Lindsey, Ben and William Creighton, Xander and Paul Campbell and numerous cousins and extended family.
A loving wife, a beloved aunt and sister, a loyal and caring friend, an unforgettable teacher, and an utterly selfless person who devoted her life to caring for others - those who knew Pam are blessed for knowing her. She leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love
Pam was a respected, passionate and distinguished educator teaching for 35 years and receiving the Bell Aliant Award for Excellence in Teaching. Her many students will fondly remember the teacher they called "Pam" and her student teachers will cherish her mentoring and friendship. She enjoyed her recent retirement years spending time with her husband Jim, daily walks and visits with close friends, Curves workouts and her puzzles.
Affectionately known as "A.P." by her adoring nieces and nephews and "Gappy" by her grand nieces and nephews, Pam was a second mother and grandmother playing a loving role in their lives. She never visited without her famous chocolate chip cookies and care packages full of treasures from Mardens , or forgot to send cards for Valentines, Easter, St. Patrick's Day, birthdays or anniversaries. She passed on her great love of reading with bags full of her favourite storybooks including an inscribed copy of "The Enormous Potato" for everyone.
Pam spent many cherished summers on PEI at the family cottage in Keppoch with her beloved late father hosting annual family visits. Her delicious three bean salad, coleslaw, chocolate chip cookies, walks up the lane, jam making and cross stitching with her "babies" were staples of these summer memories. She kept in touch with regular phone calls and family letters and was the glue that bound the family together.
When family was in need, Pam gave everything up to be by their side. The family will be forever grateful for the selfless and extended care she gave to her brother Bill during his battle with cancer.
Pam will be greatly missed by her devoted husband Jim; many friends, the Oldtimers hockey family; her neighbour family and all those who have been touched by her enormous heart and compassion.
A Memorial Service will be held at The S. O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St. Stephen, NB. on Monday, May 30, 2016 at 4 PM. Visiting hours will be at the funeral home on Sunday, May 29, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Interment in Prince Edward Island at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.mehanfuneralhome.ca
