Obituary
FAIR HAVEN — Charles Richard Soulia, 84, of Colchester, Conn., and formerly of Fair Haven, died Oct. 7, 2009, at Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, after a long illness.
He was born in Rutland Aug. 9, 1925, the son of Henry and Emma (Richard) Soulia.
He was a 1943 graduate of Fair Haven High School.
After graduation, Mr. Soulia enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a combat veteran of World War II and honorably discharged at the rank of corporal.
He retired in 1988 after 35 years of employment at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Engine Corp. in East Hartford, Conn.
He was a former member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Church in Fair Haven and a member of the machinist union and American Legion Post 49 in Fair Haven.
Mr. Soulia was an avid fisherman and hunter.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret E. (Allen) Soulia of Colchester, Conn.; six children, William Collins of Lebanon, Conn., Peter Soulia of Uncasville, Conn., Joseph Soulia of Fair Haven, Mary Radway, Christine Lamprey and Kathleen Petro, all of Colchester, Conn.; a sister, Norma Fish of Fair Haven; 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Shirley Gipson; two sisters, Connie Argo and Joyce Sanderson, and a brother, James Soulia.
The graveside service with full military honors will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, in St. Mary's Cemetery in Fair Haven with the Rev. James Lawrence, pastor of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Church, officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
