      The Rev. Kenneth R. Rayner, 85, died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012. He was the husband of Jo Ann (Baucher) Rayner, to whom he was married for 58 years. He was born in Medford on Nov. 20, 1926, the son of the late Robert and Minnie (Strang) Rayner, and lived much of his young life in Boxborough. He graduated from Littleton High School and then went on to receive degrees from Providence Bible School, Taylor University and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Rev. Rayner pastored four churches: The Martin Pond Union Baptist Church in North Reading, The First Baptist Church of Chester, Vt., The First Baptist Church of Fairfield, Conn., and The First Baptist Church of Braintree. He was affiliated with the American Baptist Churches USA for many years. An avid gardener and accomplished carpenter, he also enjoyed a good game of golf. He was also fortunate to visit many other countries as well as areas in the U.S. In his retirement, he was a volunteer chaplain at the Marlborough Hospital for several years, preached at a number of churches as a supply pastor, and served as an interim pastor at three churches. Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, Brent Rayner and his wife, Bev Bowker Rayner, of Lexington, Kurt Rayner and his girlfriend, Patti Frattaroli, of Framingham, Jed Rayner and his wife, Betsy, of Tewksbury, Reid Rayner and his wife, Dawn, of Kollweiler Germany; one brother, Robert Wendell Rayner of Del City, Okla.; one sister, the Rev. Jeannette Tagg of Dublin, Va.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. His funeral will be held Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 1 p.m., at the First Baptist Church of Braintree, 594 Washington St., Braintree. Burial will be private. Visiting hours are Tuesday, Jan. 24, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the William R. Short and Son Funeral Home (www.shortfuneral.com), 95 West Main St., Marlborough. Memorial gifts and contributions may be made to the church or organization of one's choice, or the Metro- West Hospice, 85 Lincoln St., Framingham, MA 01702.
