Obituary
HINGSTON-ELLIOTT, Herwald (Hap) Burnett -86, passed away peacefully at 8:20 pm on August 23 at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, Ontario. He was born on March 2, 1922, in Montreal, Quebec. Hap served as a Pilot Officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII. He then enjoyed a long and successful career with the Bell Telephone Company of Canada, during which time he lived in Quebec, Ontario, Newfoundland, PEI, and Alberta. Upon his retirement from Bell, he settled in Midhurst, Ontario, where he consulted for a few more years. He was an avid curler and active member of his community, often campaigning for local political candidates. He was well-known and appreciated for his wit, sense of humor, story-telling, and high energy. Hap is survived by his loving wife, Joyce; four children: Sheryl-Lynne Peterson, Donna Wells, Harry Elliott, and Suzan VanderMeulen; seven grandchildren: Laura Yarrow, Heidi Wing, Greg Wells, Sarah Clode, Steven Elliott, Mark VanderMeulen, and Megan Elliott; and nine great-grandchildren: Alexandra, Emma, and Tommy Yarrow; Kayla, Matthew, and Zachary Wing; Declan Clode; and Liam and Chloe Elliott. For many years, he cared for his wife, who suffers from Alzheimer's Disease. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who never forgot a single birthday! He will be greatly missed by his family and those who knew him. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, August 30th, at 4:00 pm, at St. Paul's Anglican Church in Midhurst, Ontario.
