Obituary
William F. Mattinson, Beckwith - This community was saddened to learn of the passing of William F. Mattinson at Victoria General Hospital, at Halifax on Aug. 10th, after a long period of failing health. Born at Tawas City, Michigan in 1892, he came to Nova Scotia when a boy and spent most of his life in Beckwith, where he farmed until ill health forced his retirement several years ago. He was the son of the late Philip and Harriett Mattinson. Mr. Mattinson had a friendly disposition and enjoyed visiting his neighbors and friends until entering the hospital two weeks prior to his death. His wife, the former Ava Eaton, predeceased him on Christmas Day, 1959. He is survived by one daughter, Bernice (Mrs. Hubert Collins), a granddaughter, Ellen, and a half-sister, Elizabeth Heinz of Oregon, U.S.A. The funeral service was held from Black's Funeral Home, at Oxford on Friday, Aug. 13th, at 2 p.m. Rev. Bleesdell officiated and brought a comforting message to the sorrowing family and friends. Hymns sung were "Lead Me to Calvary" and "Have Thine Own Way". Pallbearers were neighbors of the deceased, Harry Leadbetter, Sterling Collins, Paul Mattinson, Robert Tower (Jr.), and Douglas Mattinson. Interment was in Birch Grove Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, with Frank Black & Son as funeral directors.
