Obituary
Milton Dale "Milt" Strang, age 80, of Madison WI, formerly of Black Earth, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 11, 2010.
He was born on Sept. 13, 1929, in Madison, the son of LaVerne and Mildred (Heydon) Strang. Milt grew up in Black Earth. He was united in marriage to the former Rachel Wild McCann on Sept. 10, 1971, in Madison. Milt worked for the University of Wisconsin-Madison for 40 years. His nickname was "Uncle Milty." Milt served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a lifetime member of both the VFW Post No. 1318 Lakeside and American Legion of Black Earth. He was a member of Lake Edge United Church of Christ. Milt enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and inventing and collecting many unique gadgets. His greatest joy came from his family and how proud he was of them.
He is survived by his wife, Rachel; six children, Jeralyn (Bill) Hughes, Curt (Debbie) McCann, Rick McCann, all of Madison, Renae (Strang) (Randy) Ballwahn of DeSoto, Sandy (John) Schwenn of Madison, Shelly (Strang) (Zeke) Dupee of Black Earth; nine grandchildren, Tammy (Doug Morrill) Morrill Hughes, Patrick Hughes, Eric Ballwahn, Jamie Dupee, Leslie (Dan) Graham, Ashle McCann, Kelsey and Garrett Schwenn and Nicole Schroeder; five great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Kimberly, Kiara, Thresa and Cameron; three sisters and four brothers, Shirley (Irv) Williams of Black Earth, Avis (Don) Nesvacil of Merrimac, William Strang of Black Earth, James (Susie) Strang of Mazomanie, David (Marlene) Strang of Mazomanie, Larry (Janney) Strang of Black Earth and Jacolyn (Bernie) Bach of Black Earth; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Milt was preceded in death by his parents; his sister and brother-in-law, Carol and John Parkin; grandchild, Jacob John Schwenn; and niece, Heidi Strang.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at LAKE EDGE UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 4200 Buckeye Road, Madison, on Thursday, July 15, 2010. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park with military rites being conducted. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, on Wednesday, July 14, 2010, with a pass and review by the VFW Post No. 1318 at 5 p.m. and also a scripture service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to HospiceCare, Inc.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Paul Wertsch and all the staff at Wildwood Clinic. The staff at 4SW St. Mary's Hospital and HospiceCare for their compassionate care of Milt that made his last days so much easier.
