LCDR Henry W Pasek, 1922-2020
LCDR Henry W. Pasek, USN (ret.), 98, of Pensacola, FL, was called home August 11, 2020. He was born August 2, 1922 in Ware, MA to the late Walter H. and Katherine B. Pasek. Henry is preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Loraine G. Pasek.
In 1939, Henry enlisted in the Navy as a sailor. He was commissioned as an ensign and was then accepted for flight training at Pensacola Naval Air Station. He was a carrier combat pilot in the Pacific in WWII and flew many different single engine aircraft. After WWII, he was a jet pilot and stayed in the Reserves. He then joined Trans Ocean Airlines as their Director of the Atlantic/European operations. In 1951, the Navy recalled him for the Korean War. He then flew helicopters off carriers for rescue missions in support of the Navy’s jet pilots. After the Korean War, he returned to Trans Ocean Airlines. In 1958 he was hired by the FAA as an air traffic controller, located in White Plains, NY. He retired from the FAA in 1980 and was hired as a contractor by Bendix Field Engineering Corp. to assist in air traffic control in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia until 1985. Henry and Loraine then retired to Pensacola, FL.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Robert M. Pasek (Beth) of St.Charles, IL, Elliot “Brad” Pasek of MA, Polly H. Tucker (Billy), and Sally P. Cowan (Chris Pate); grandchildren, Shannon T. Bell (Walker) of St. Charles, IL, Shayne R. Staley (Erick) of Lake Oswego, OR, and Garrett D. Cowan of New York, NY; great-grandchildren, Logan G. Bell, Maggie E. Bell, Kiran A. Staley, and Darra B. Staley; sister-in-law, Germaine G. Raymond; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held 11:30 am until a Funeral Mass to begin at 12:00 noon Thursday, August 13, 2020 at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church with Fr. Hank Lech celebrant. Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation or Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church in Pensacola, FL.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Brookdale Senior Living and Emerald Coast Hospice.
