Obituary
Beckwith, Jan. 4 - This community was shocked and saddened by the passing of Ava Jane Mattinson, wife of William F. Mattinson, Beckwith, on Christmas night. Mrs. Mattinson had been in failing health for the past three months. Born at Little River in 1901, the daughter of the late James and Eva Eaton, she spent most of her married life in Beckwith, where her friendly disposition won her a wide circle of friends. She was keenly interested in her church and will be greatly missed in the Missionary Society of which she had been a member for many years. Surviving are her husband, William Mattinson, one daughter (Bernice) Mrs. Hubert Collins, one granddaughter Ellen and a brother, Charles Eaton of Halifax, Mass. The funeral service was held on Sunday, Dec. 27th, at 2 o'clock from the home of her daughter at Beckwith and was largely attended. Rev. John Porter officiated, reading portions of scripture from the Psalms and he spoke words of comfort to the bereaved family. Hymns sung were favorites of the deceased, "Take Time To Be Holy" and "Break Thou the Bread of Life". Pallbearers were Peter Wood, Lorne Wood, Lloyd Wood, Lester Fraser, Arthur Mattinson and Harry Leadbetter. Interment was in Birch Grove Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant with Mr. Frank Black, Oxford, as funeral director. The floral tributes were as follows ...(I did not transcribe floral tributes.)
