SHEPHERD, Harry Buffum "Shep" 94, of Scarborough, passed away on Thursday, August 30 at Holbrook Health Center, Piper Shores, in Scarborough. Harry was born on Aug. 10, 1918 in Hanover, MA, the son of Earl F. and Marion Delia (Studley) Shepherd. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy as a pilot in the Pacific Theatre and during the Korean War. Throughout his naval career he did numerous reserve flights for the Navy and received the Cuban Missile Crisis call at South Weymouth Naval Air Station. During the 1960's, Harry fulfilled his military duty reaching the rank of Captain, whilst simultaneously being appointed Captain as a pilot for American Airlines. Harry graduated from Bates College in 1940. He married Beatrice Tapley Wilson on June 5, 1943 in Florida. They enjoyed skiing, tennis, dancing, and life together. Harry loved his family and was supportive of his children throughout their lives. He had a passion for boats, motorcycles, cars, and the outdoors. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Beatrice (Bee); his two sons, Bob Shepherd and his wife Alice of NH and Ric Shepherd of NC; five grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 22, at the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd., South Portland.
