Rev. Edgar Dewar dies in Springville DEWAR, Rev. Edgar Foote - 70, Springville, Pictou County, died May 27, 1993, at home. Born in Marshy Hope, Pictou County, he was a son of the late Chester and Mary (Foote) Dewar. He received his early education at Marshy Hope School. He was a graduate of New Glasgow High School and received his bachelor of arts degree from Acadia University, Wolfville. He graduated from the faculty of religious studies, Presbyterian College at McGill University, Montreal, and was ordained to the ministry of the Presbyterian Church of Canada. Most of his ministry was served in Pictou Presbytery with the exception of a term as chaplain with the Canadian Armed Forces, Chilliwack, B.C., and hospital ministry, Montreal. He served the pastoral charges of Gairloch, Hopewell-Eureka, Blue Mountain Garden of Eden, River John-Toney River, Springhill-Oxford and for the last 22 years, served the East River pastoral charge. He served as a clerk of the Pictou Presbytery and was moderator of both the Pictou Presbytery and Atlantic Synod. He was a member of Stellarton Male Chorus and Union Lodge IOOF 30, Springville, where he served as chaplain and past noble grand. He was a member of Silver Light Rebekah Lodge 79, Hopewell; grand master of the Atlantic Provinces in 1991 and was currently the past grand master of the Atlantic Provinces and grand representative to Sovereign Grand Lodge. As well, he served as grand chaplain of the Grand Lodge; member and chaplain of Canton Dryden No. 2, Westville and was currently chief patriach of Wawbeek Encampment No. 12, Hopewell. He served as chairman of the board of Maritime Oddfellows Home, Pictou and was an honorary member of Royal Canadian Legion, Eureka. He had a keen interest in his church and community. He is survived by his wife, the former Marjorie MacKenzie; two sons, Chester, Elgin; Eion, New Glasgow; two grandsons; a granddaughter; four brothers, Robert, Ernest, both of Marshy Hope; George, Truro; William (Bill), Halifax; four sisters, Helen (Mrs. Alex MacGregor), Big Island; Katherine (Kaye) (Mrs. Huntley MacDonald), James River; Christine (Mrs. Hugh MacLean), Sutherlands River; Margaret (Mrs. James Bowie), Halifax. He was predeceased by a sister, Gladys; brother, Roy. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today and Saturday in H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton, where combined IOOF services will begin 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday in Springville Presbyterian Church, Pictou Presbytery officiating. Burial will be in Bridgeville Cemetery.
