    • Obituary Dr. Allan Osborne Knight - NZ Medical Journal October 1963

The death occurred in Auckland on August 12th 1963 of Allan Osborne Knight at the age of 75.

Allan Knight was the eldest son of Osborne Knight, a leading physician of this city in its early days, and President of the British Medical Association in New Zealand in 1893.
Allan was educated partly at Wanganui College and partly at St John’s Collegiate School in Auckland, where in his last years he proved an outstanding athlete. He received his medical training at Middlesex Hospital, but the advent of World War I broke his student
days into two periods, and he joined the British Army in 1914. He served as a combatant with the Somerset Light Infantry, and reached the rank of Captain.

Soon after obtaining his degree he married Dr Margaret Kingsford who had been trained at the Royal Free Hospital. They returned to New Zealand, and for nearly 40 years carried on a large practice both specialising in the care of women and children. Dr Margaret died two years ago.

Allan Knight was essentially a kindly man. In spite of being grossly handicapped by severe deafness he retained a well-developed sense of humour, which was shown in many short articles and poems that came from his pen. His llan Knbightlong affliction of deafness was relieved at last by a stapedectomy and it is sad to realise that he was spared to enjoy more normal hearing for only about 6 months.
Dr Knight was an honorary anaesthetist at the Auckland Hospital for several years and in World War II he served with the N.Z.M.C on home service.

He is survived by 2 brothers and 3 sisters and he will be remembered and mourned by a very wide circle of grateful patients in Auckland.
