Obituary
PETERSON, MABEL MacCALLUM (née JEWETT)
- Mabel was the daughter of Cleveland and Verna Jewett and was born in the Jewett’s Mills, NB on April 13th, 1926. She was the sister of Horace, Myles, Jean, Ruth, Kathleen, Lois and Keith. Schooling was completed at Keswick Ridge Superior School and then onto a 3 year course at Chipman Memorial Hospital to become a registered nurse. She married Leonard D Peterson and had four girls, Joy, Janet, Joan and Jacalyn. Mabel’s career in nursing began at Victoria Public Hospital, Fredericton, and then onto assisting Dr. Bud Jewett in his office, as well as private duty nursing. Mabel retired from active nursing to become a full-time mother to her children in the late 50’s however she also managed to continue to provide nursing care to the greater area community of New Maryland. Mabel and Leonard resided a majority of their married life in the village of New Maryland. She assisted and supported her husband in all his entrepreneur activities as well as encouraging and supporting her daughters in their aspirations. Special thanks to the real ‘lifeline’ neighbours Faye Nason, Paul and Karen Shea who provided Mabel the gift of independence enabling her to remain in her own home.
The service will take place Friday, October 5th 2012 at Brunswick St. Baptist Church, York Street, Fredericton where Mabel was a member for over 50 years.
