Obituary
The death of Roy Gerald Sobey, husband of Merle (Harris) Sobey, of 1030 Route 435 Hwy., Maple Glen, NB, occurred at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, on Tuesday, January 13, 2004, at the age of 83.
Born in Maple Glen, Roy was the son of the late Manford and Mae (Erickson) Sobey. He attended The Boom Road Pentecostal Church, and was retired from the Department of Natural Resources.
Roy is survived by his wife, Merle, and one daughter, Joan Ross, of Miramichi; two sons, Kerry, of Maple Glen; and Glen (Theresa), of Barrie, ON; 10 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Roy is the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is predeceased by one son, Reginald, and seven brothers: Clarence, Walter, Eric, Robert, Gordon, Eldon, and Colson; one sister, Alma, and two stepsisters, Ada and Margaret.
Visitation was held at Bell's Funeral Home, on Thursday, from 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral service was held on Friday, January 16, at 11 a.m. from the Sterling Bell Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Fred Williams officiating, assisted by Pastor Tom Ettinger. Tribute/Eulogy was done by granddaughter, Jennifer Ross Makhan. Organist and soloist, Mary Matheson, rendered My Savior First Of All, and Good Night Down Here, Good Morning Up There. Congregational and choir hymns were: In The Garden and I'll Fly Away.
Active pallbearers were: Fred Street, Gary Allison, Robert and Robbie Ross, Kevin and Kirk Sobey.
Burial will take place in the Maple Glen Cemetery later in the spring. Funeral arrangements were under the care of Bell's Funeral Home, 651 King George Highway, Miramichi, NB E1V 1N9. Telephone 506-622-3600.
